I am getting my windshield tinted next week to reduce heat penetration. What is the best way to mount/remove EZ Pass transponders from the windshield without causing damage to the tint film? My current plan is to order an EZ Pass mount from Amazon that uses suction cups to adhere to the windshield. Will the suction cups mess up the tint film? Are there better solutions to mount an EZ Pass on a tinted windshield?

Do you have an EZPass that uses the plastic velcro for attachment to the windshield? If so, go buy a few strips from Lowe's or Home Depot (or your preferred big box store) and attach as you would on regular glass. I've been using windshield tint and the standard 3M plastic velcro strips for nearly a decade, with zero issues to the windshield tint.

Keep in mind, you're more likely to have the windshield replaced due to a crack and needing to replace the windshield tint, rather than damaging the film with adhesive velcro strips.

Yes, my EZ Pass attaches with velcro strips. I was thinking about a solution that would allow me to avoid attaching the adhesive side directly to the new film. With those adhesive backed strips against untinted glass windshields all these years I knew I could remove the strips if I wished without causing an issue.

Just curious, why do you think you'd need to remove the adhesive strips? They will come off if you need them to. Use a hair dryer (not a heat gun) on max heat, roughly 8" away for 30 second increments. Adhesive will be plyable enough to remove. You can then remove any residual with most ammonia free window cleaner.

Additionally, you could try affixing your EZPass to your glass roof, or the backside of your rearview mirror. If you want to test the mirror application, get two rubber bands or zip ties, and attach the EZPass to the mirror. Go through a few tolls and ensure it works properly.

I don't know anything about front tint, but I do have an EZPass that attaches to the windshield with velcro strips. If I were getting tint on my windshield I'd probably have them cut it to go around the velcro (so the velcro stays adhered directly to the glass). You won't see it anyway, since the EZPass covers this whole area.

Good luck, let us know how it works out!

Has anyone considered or used the glass rooftop as the location for your EZ Pass? I know that's not what the toll company recommends, but I've seen people place them all over the windshield. I wonder if it would operate fine if attached to the glass roof.

Yes this was mentioned in a different thread as working just fine

I've had suction cups for my toll pass and radar detector in all my vehicles with windshield tint and have never had any issues. I remove the suction cups regularly to clean the windshield.

Get the exterior, license plate mounted transponder. No obstruction on the windows and it’s further forward on vehicle. Have them on 3 cars without issue

I have my windshield tinted and I’ve got my window sticker and toll tag mounted to a clear static cling sticker that I then mounted to my windshield. You can move them around whenever you want.

I have this exact setup. Works great and have even relocated without problems.
