Yes, I am a bit anal retentive. The first thing I notice on a new vehicle is body panel alignment. Are the panel gaps tight and even? Are body panels flush with each other? Are body panels aligned, etc. I consider Porsche and Audi the top two companies to have near perfect body panel fitment.

Upon delivery last month my worst fears were realized. Out of 11 panels that are hung on the R1T my entire drivers side was wonky. Hood/fender corner, charging door, front door, rear door and Gear Tunnel panels were slightly misaligned at the assembly plant.

When I pointed out these issues to my delivery person he agreed they were ā€œnot to specā€ and said no problem. The SC techā€™s would align every panel and we filled out a service ticket on the spot.

I am happy to report that my local Rivian SC technicians loosened and re-aligned all of the body panels to my satisfaction. My anal retentive side is now happyšŸ˜Š Why isnā€˜t QC factory QC picking up on this before vehicles leave the factory?

Looking at your delivery date of 12/10/2022 explains the "why" it looked the way it looked, but glad they addressed and corrected the issues for you. Looks great now!

Yes, I am very pleased with the techā€™s workmanship. The end result is that every body panel is now aligned near perfection.

Funny, it wasnā€™t assembled on a Monday or Friday. Door sticker shows it was assembled on a Saturday. No rattles, squeaks or wind noise either.

Thatā€™s awesome!

Now you can move on to more important things, like:

  • Repeatedly checking to make sure that doors and windows are locked or that appliances are turned off; some individuals with OCD have to check their neighborhood to make sure they have not hit someone with their car or assaulted someone
  • Excessive cleaning of the house, clothes, and/or body
  • Counting objects, letters, words, or actions
  • Doing routine activities repeatedly, like standing up or going up and down stairs
  • Requesting or demanding reassurance from family members or health care providers, such as "My hands should be clean now, right?"
  • Repeating phrases or sequences of words either out loud or mentally
  • Rearranging objects to ensure a specific order and/or symmetry
  • Doing things in multiples; for instance, turning the light on and off five times because five is a "good" number

2021, February build date. The body panel alignment and gaps are 99% perfect.

Glad the issues were resolved, you raise a good point about why QC in a factory operating this year at 30% of capacity letā€™s issues go through. The tailgate on R1S models are all out of alignment looking at a random selection on cars and bids. They should be assembled right first time, then qc at the factory and then qc at the SC. What will they do when volumes are in six figures next year?

Nice! My Model Y was a Oct 2020 build (2021MY) and also about as close to perfect build quality as one could ask for.

Well, the full theoretical capacity of the factory was calculated running 3 shifts/day but Rivian was only running 1 shift/day for most of the year and even that wasn't a full regular work week. When crunch time (Non-Dec) came the 2nd shift was added and they kicked it in to high gear and started pumping out volume. So even operating well below theoretical plant capacity, they were near capacity for 2-shift output.

They cannot be near capacity with two shifts because that would imply being close to 66% of capacity and they are not even half that now and even if the target was 70k this year they would be at 35% across the whole year (more towards the end of this year of course).

Iā€™m OCD lite and would have let half of those go. Lol. But glad you got taken care of.

I really don't think any of those are bad to be perfectly honest. I've seen some on here that I wouldn't accept, but my truck has a few of those minor misalignments and it doesn't bother me in the least bit. This isn't a Rolls Royce.
