I was able to enable the Ninja Turtle mode after a 6 mile drive Friday morning. I’ve seen a couple people post up recently about their experience which for some ended up with a tow to the service center. I’ll share my experience with the turtle.
It happened right after I dropped my son to school. I came to a full stop and made a right turn.
After completing the turn, the turtle mode indicator came on. All I could imagine in my head is a ninja wearing all black and his eyes / face were looking like a Rivian / Baymax.
Speed was limited to 42 mph. AWD was permanently engaged. We call this the Ninja in stealth mode. Midnight Black paint scheme was very fitting.
I stopped off at a cinema parking lot to make sure I would be able to come to a full stop and resume driving. If not the parking lot was completely empty making it easy to use a flat deck tow if required.
After stopping, going into park and starting to drive again, the errors went away .
I was able to go up to 55 mph with no issues.
Rivian support asked me to do a full reset and also a sleep reset. Possible a glitch error / glitch code. Hopefully not a loose ground wire or a motor on its way out.
I let the vehicle sit for 5 hours and took it for a quick 20 mile test drive all the way to 85 mph.
I tested all purpose mode, sport mode and conserve mode. All 4 motors were engaging and disengaging as expected.
At that point I felt comfortable taking the family out to dinner and dessert which was a 60+ mile drive.
I’m happy to report the Ninja Turtle mode is no longer enabled and the vehicle is working business as usual after the full reset.
The vehicle never broke down or left me stranded and was able to return home on its own power and then hit 0-60 in 3 ish seconds on its own power.
I plan to keep on driving it the way I’ve been driving it for the last 6,200 miles which is pretty much drive it like I stole it because in my mind, I did steal it.
The pre-order pricing and full tax credit is chefs kiss and I’ll happily be your guinea pig while doing 0-60 in 3 seconds.
I’ve already created a ticket and will keep it open in case I have any further issues.
Time to test the launch mode this weekend and make sure it still has 835 horses inside of it.
