Once again the smartest guy in the room is . . . Not. Oh the internet, the great leveler.

And this is good info! I am embarresed to admit I have never once thought about, let alone used, a tire warranty. Adding it the bucket list.

The Michelin product brochure linked below indeed indicates this is a treadlife warranty. It also indicates that this warranty does not apply to tires that come with a new car so I think that’s where the confusion lies.

Correct, but I don't believe Rivian has shipped any Rivian's with Michelin tires yet. Thus this discussion would be about Michelin replacing a Pirelli. That said, Michelin has replaced OEM tires on our Acura twice (premature wear) and once on a Honda. Goodyear has also done the same. It's all about record keeping, proper maintenance and most will goodwill even on an OEM tire.

for people that used the tread warranty from discount tires before. Does the warranty prorated credit only apply to the same brand of tires or you can get a different brand?

I’ve changed brands via warranty credits at DT.

Michelin honored the 30k treadlife warranty and prorated 60% off the cost of new tires when I burned through Michelin Super Sports in 12k miles on my V60 Polestar.

So... I don't think there's any merit to the idea they only honor 'manufacturing defects.'

Available for my R1S here locally and I need new tires. Look like a great option.
The Count's new shoes are being installed as he types.

Thank you. what if you don't like the way it ride on a set of tires you bought. Can that be credit as warranty? I bought my son a set of Toyo on his Silverado few months back and he doesn't like the way it feels.

People have had brake pads that were defective and were replaced under warranty without issue.

In case you didn’t know…
Sure but after 20k miles pads aren't defective they are worn. 70k miles on a set of tires seems 100% unrealistic. Tires lasting longer than 30k would be great but the Rivian is a heavy vehicle and that would be highly unlikely.

I'm at 41.5k on the OEM 21's. Already have a set of the Michelins in the garage waiting for whenever these disintegrate.

I’ve also gotten credit for “dissatisfied customer”. yMMV

To be honest, I’ve never heard of someone needing to change brake pads at 20k on an EV or ICE car unless they commute over mountains etc (which people do in CA). If your brakes are done at 20k miles, either you drive insane or something is up with the brakes.

And if a tire has a tread warranty or advertisement of tread life and you get 30-40k instead of 60-70k, that’s an issue to me. I also know folks that have gotten warranty fixes there (usually something like 50% off a new set). Michelin knows the tires are on 7000lb cars and they advertise a tread life with that in mind. And people buy these consumable with advertised life in mind.

Of course this is all assuming one is using the car as the average person does…
