Kyle just got a glimpse of the Mercedes EQS SUV, which is to be revealed in April. This thing looks like a luxury off-road BEV SUV.
I Ride In The Electric Mercedes EQS SUV For The First Time! - YouTube

Looks like the first true competitor to the R1S. Obviously will have to wait and see.
Check out the quality of those blind spot cameras!
And comes with four wheel steering.

@OutofSpecKyle This came as a surprise, what are your opinion if you were to compare it to the R1T?

I am sure it will be really nice but 80k? Unlikely. My guess would be in the 105-115k range. So with the Rivian price increase it is close.

Kyle mentioned the ride was much nicer than the R1T.

I'm sure the off-road capabilities will be much less than the R1S, but it will probably be an extremely nice ride. The biggest let-down is the lack of a front trunk. When using the third row, storage is very limited in both the R1S and EQS SUV. A front trunk really helps make up for this.

I'm sure the range and charging speeds will be good based on the EQS sedan performance. Biggest question is price. $100k-$110k starting would be competitive. That's just above a fully loaded R1S (new prices) and is under a Tesla Model X. Considering the EQS sedan starts right at $100k it seems feasible.

I do like Mercedes SUVs, and are accustomed to the level of comfort of the Mercedes GLS and such. That said, driving the Rivian didn't feel like much a downgrade. The car felt premium enough for its price point (both the original and the current)

When does this actually get manufactured. The Kia EV9 and Lucid Gravity may well beat it and will offer competition to the R1S (except for off road capability).

The XC90 electric (7 seater) will probably be on sale as well.

Anecdotally most don't. I was very interested in the new EQG. Supposed to be out in 2023. From what I found out, it's built on the current platform mostly. That's why I like the R1S so much-it's a fresh platform.

Just starting this video. Isn't this thing a fair amount smaller than an R1S, or is that an optical illusion?

Edit: must be just the shape. The internal walk through looked bigger with the room behind the third row.

I had the same question, based on how it looked from the outside. But the interior looks pretty roomy. They did manage to cram a 3rd row in. Will have to wait for reviews to see.

Oh, fun story. We have now seen more of the EQS interior than the R1S.
I gave this a ‘haha!’ but it also deserves a ‘sad’…

The EQS will be 5,160 mm or 203.1 in.

Which is longer than the R1S at 200.8 in,

Width of EQS sedan is 78.2" with mirrors folded. Can't find width of EQS SUV. Sedan/CUV pairs are usually the same width when produced on the same line but this time the SUV will be made in the USA while the sedan is made in Germany.

Width of R1S is 81.8" with mirrors folded.
