Matte PPF / Stealth PPF Database

Seems like a lot of folks curious about how these turn out for different colors - may make sense to centralize a thread. If you've put matte ppf on yours, post it here!

• Wrapped stainless colored plastic pieces black on front and rear bumper

Will probably paint lettering/badges black and replace them on the doors and tailgate but living the debadged life for now

How difficult was it to remove the tow hooks?

Man… I’m having the hardest time trying to decide whether to do gloss or stealth on my Rivian Blue R1S. I’m dropping it off this weekend for the PPF.

I haven’t seen the stealth on blue in person, and maybe that makes all the difference.

Have them lay a piece of each on the hood or fender. Then go with your gut.

I’m a PPF newbie and have a few questions on PPF for those more experienced:

1) How careful do I need to be washing my car if I get a full body stealth (satin/matte) wrap? Can I use a regular drive through car wash? Touchless? Hand wash only?

2) I see some vehicles with matte PPF with a ceramic coat on top. Doesn’t the ceramic coat make it more glossy again? Or does it still look matte?

3) Does anyone have experience with the full body XPEL stealth PPF deal? I found a local shop willing to honor it ($4500), but they told me not all edges are wrapped. How concerned should I be about that?

In case it helps, I have an LAS R1S with BM/20” darks.

A vehicle with full PPF can go through any wash. The paint will never touch the brushes so you won’t get swirl marks. I think the PPF can withstand an automatic wash. But if you have ceramic on top of the PPF, use only the bare basic wash. You don’t want crappy auto car wash “wax” layering on top of a professionally applied expensive ceramic coat.

RE: 2, you’re absolutely right. Kind of defeats the purpose to put a glossy ceramic over a matte PPF. There are, however, some products for such a situation:

RE: edge wrapping, people have strong feelings about that. IMO - most people won’t notice and the XPel deal is reasonable value. However, dust and road debris can affect those edges and if it’s in the budget and it if you plan keeping the car a while, the wrapped edge option is a higher quality seamless look. I’d use the XPel deal as a negotiating tactic with a local shop and try to get a better price for wrapped edges full wrap.
