I have to question why continue investing in the Rivian charging system when Tesla has such a lead in that area.
We need competition, last thing you would want is for only one company with a DCFC charging network out there.

Because the goal is to diversify, capture a portion of market share and associated revenue. Because EV are only less than 10% of total market and growing. If they don’t start now, when? Wait for saturation and more competition in infrastructure, when it’s more challenging to generate revenue? Because it’s among an ecosystem of products that enhance owner experience. Because RAN aims to serve as gateways to adventure destinations—a role Supercharger does not fill by intent. Superchargers are placed in populated areas and points in between. RAN does not aim to do the same—metro to outdoor destinations and points in between; “Adventure Network”?? Because it’s a way to capture revenue that is now lost to Supercharger and all other networks. Because, for consumers, range anxiety is the biggest hurdle for EV adoption. Because no one has ever complained there are too many charging opportunities. No one.

I know what you are getting at—they are wasting resources that could be spent on things you personally feel more strongly about. But you don’t have access to internal spreadsheets. You don’t have context or complete picture of how much they spend and on what. You don’t have access to feasibility analysis on their plan for RAN. But clues exist. RAN has not been expanding aggressively (casually is more accurate). Software development continues and at rate of roughly 1 OTA every 2 months or less. Vehicle production continues unabated, despite RAN expansion. Service Center expansion continues. Factory expansion at Normal begins as planned (to add capacity for R2). Read investor report. They are doing all these things because they can and their understanding of the business tells them they should [continue to expand RAN]. They know more than you do. And their actions are based on what they know. All calculated and considered.

Because Tesla isn't everywhere. Because more options are needed. Because not everyone wants to give money to Tesla.

Talk about Adventure I'm waiting on a R1S TriMax and trying to figure out how I make it from Boulder, CO to Bozeman MT. I'm hoping that the phone app. gives me more optimistic charging station options to make that 700 mile trip once I've actually taken delivery than what I currently see available on the app. Crossing Wyoming is a long relatively empty journey anytime of year and the winter's snow and hurricane force winds from the west give me pause to attempt it with the so few charging station options. Made the drive many times in an GX450 in winter but the fuel consumption was ridiculous and gas stations common.
