2022 Rivian R1T - Gen1 Quad
Are there any other Rivian owners in Manitoba out there? I'm an early R1T reservation holder from back in 2020. But since Rivian is still not delivering to Manitoba, I got tired of waiting so I bought a second hand 2022 R1T a year ago and absolutely love it. Haven't seen any other Rivians on Manitoba roads with Manitoba plates. I've seen a few with BC and Quebec plates, but none from Manitoba. Wondering if there are any others like me that live in Manitoba and are interested in connecting to exchange stories or adventures.

We are likely one of those BC plated R1S. I grew up on the NE perimeter and we have driven from Vancouver to LOTW annually for more than 20-years. This year was the first we drove an electric from BC and we were shocked and dismayed by the lack of charging infrastructure in SK, MB, and NW ON. However we had way more interested parties stopping us on the road and asking us about the Rivian. There's like two DC chargers in Wpg and the one Tesla lot is incompatible?!

We could meet up this August for some comradery. Ours is a Rivian Blue 2023.

You are correct. There are not many DC fast charging options around. It is still possible to get around in EVs, especially when you live here with L2 charging at home. I have done two road trips to BC in the past few years with my Mach-E (this was before I bought the R1T), so I have first-hand experience in travelling across MB and SK. It is very doable, but there are not many options. I look forward to having an opportunity to take my R1T on a road trip to BC someday. Would love to explore some of the backroads in your province. Must be breathtakingly beautiful.

We could try to meet up this August if that works out. Ours is an early 2022 in Limestone and Black Mountain interior.

Have you secured one of the third-party CCS to NACS charging adapters? We got the A2Z Gen 1 on the way across, received in Winnipeg, and used it on the return trip. Telsa charging infrastructure is BY FAR superior to the other stuff. It was a profound change in perspective going from "will it be working and will we have to wait" to pulling up to 12 empty chargers. It really matters when you are driving 14-hour days with a hotel deadline each day.

Yes I do have the j3400 to CCS adapter. I received a free one from Rivian last summer. And you are correct, it makes all the difference in the world.

I've have an R1S on pre-order for 5 years now. I've weighed the pros and cons of buying second hand. Some people have said that if there is a problem, it can get very costly since the nearest service center is in Calgary. I still have that 30% voucher ( they've extended it to December 2026 ) from Rivian. But even with that voucher, this vehicle, in the end, is going to cost me $150k. What I could gather, the original price of the vehicle will not be honored - I think it was around USD $79k.
So, I've started another though process - should I cancel my pre-order and go with a Korean model.

The distant service center will be your biggest Achilles heel. I've already had two services under warranty and for me it's a short drive. However if you do pursue the truck I do recommend used as the federal government until 2027 is waving GST an electric vehicles with more than 6,000 km on them. Buying used means no GST or PST which is quite a bit extra to add to the new cost

Yes, the distance from the Service Center is definitely not ideal. Our R1T is a second vehicle, so if it was to have a major issue, it would not be the end of the world (still bad, but we do have another vehicle that we can use to get around). In November, we did get a stone which cracked the windshield. We made an insurance claim and drove the truck to the Minneapolis Service Center (much closer than Calgary). And while we were there, we had them go through a list of minor service issues we had noticed over the past several months of ownership. They were all very minor issues, so we simply listed them out and had them all fixed at once during that same trip. So after all, it wasn't a big deal. Gave us a reason to visit Minneapolis for a few days. I suppose we could have had Rivian Mobile Service take care of most of our issues, but it seemed a waste to have someone fly in for those minor things.

I also still have my reservation for a new R1T, with the 29% voucher. When Rivian is ready to sell me a new truck, I may trade in my used one and get a bran new one with zero miles and a fresh warranty. With my 29% voucher, I likely can sell my used one for more than what the new one would cost me.

I don't think a new R1S would cost you $150 with your 29% discount. As it is now, Rivian Vancouver still has several Gen1 Quad R1Ss in stock with an average price of $125K CAD. Minus your voucher plus taxes should bring you close to $100K CAD. But I suppose if you go all out for a new Tri Motor, Gen2, that would get close to the $140K.

Take care.
