So, live on big island. Tech out here yesterday diagnosed the main battery needing replacement. Just got a call from Matt at the oahu service center. They will not do replacement here so vehicle needs sent to oahu. Said I have to pay for the barge round trip.

HI law requires you give them reasonable opportunity to repair it.

If the fault is covered by warranty, they'll cover transport to the Service Center. You'll be on the hook for the return trip, though.

You don’t need a lawyer for a lemon law, bbbautoline.org will help you out better and a lawyer and it’s free.

My HV battery failed and 6 days later I was back in my truck enjoying life. It was covered under warranty.

It’s not Rivian’s fault you live somewhere with expensive auto transport. They don’t guarantee they will pay for any tow to a SC.

Why is Rivian charging for towing to service appointments?
Whenever possible, Rivian provides vehicle service through mobile appointments where a service technician travels to you. If service needs are more extensive, vehicles are brought to a nearby Rivian Service Center.

When an owner’s R1T or R1S is inoperable or cannot safely be driven due to an issue covered under warranty, Rivian will assess the best course of action and potentially cover the tow expense. When the vehicle can be safely driven, we ask that our customers both drop off and pick up their Rivian at the nearest Service Center. In these instances, if you choose for the vehicle to be towed, we'll coordinate with a towing company that’s been provided our towing guide and training materials. When we arrange towing on your behalf, we simply add the cost to your work order and pass it through to the third-party towing company.

We also continue to offer alternative transportation options while your Rivian is being serviced.

You can always contact our Service Team to learn more.

They were on the Big Island yesterday? Man, hope they're still there. My R1S is in collision repair on the Big Island and needs something directly from Rivian techs to complete it.

Sorry to hear about your battery. That's very disappointing. I'd push back on the shipping charge to Oahu. I can't find the verbiage but my understanding is that for warranty repairs, which this clearly is, Rivian will pay for towing to a service center. I'm not sure if they have some exceptions to that policy, however, for Hawaii. I do hope you can sort it out. I'll do some digging on my own to try to help you out. Again, keep pushing back and escalate the concern. When I was looking for collision repair on the Big Island I was at first told to ship it back to the mainland. That clearly didn't happen. Push back. It should go up on chain and someone will address.

For warranty repairs, Rivian will also usually pay for a rental for the duration, too.

@godfodder0901 is right, though. You'll need to pay to ship it back to the Big Island.

If it make you feel any better, the main battery back in my R1T on the mainland had to be replaced. Once the battery arrived, it only took a few days to repair.

EDIT: Oh shoot. I think @COdogman just corrected me. I hadn't seen the page he linked.

You are not even close to qualifying for Lemon Law.

As others have said if it is determined to be a warranty repair Rivian will pay for the tow to the service center. You will be responsible for transport back. My service center is 4 hours away, and although it's less of a pain than it is for you, an 8-hour round trip for service is still a pain in my ass.

However, I knew the deal when I bought this. If I wanted close service, I'd have gotten the Hummer. I chose to deal with this since I didn't like the Hummer as much. You chose the same.

3 repairs for same issue or more than 30 days in service to be considered. You shipped vehicle to location with no service center, you are responsible for the young brothers cost to ship to Oahu. Sorry brah

How does this factor when the SC refuses to accept you for the same repair? I’ve been chasing a showstopper issue for nearly 4 months and these fools refuse to let me in for a second appointment timely. I am about to park it on the street in front of Burbank SC with lemon decals on the side.

Love the truck btw. Service experience though is the worst in my 33 years of operating vehicles.

What's the showstopper issue?

The above seems like a good middle ground, why not split the cost? Assuming you didn't take delivery of the vehicle on Big Island, and either did it mainland or Oahu, splitting seems pretty fair.

What's the showstopper issue?

They have the get out of jail free card when we order the vehicle for delivery to hawaii we click the understanding that if transport inter island is required to get to service center the owner may be required to pay. They will cover tow truck to port from my house and from port to service center but not the barge part. I'm hoping to be able to upgrade battery, if possible, or at least get one with the extra armor for offroading for the troubles. We will see how it goes.

Sorry for your situation. Unfortunately, most likely the inconvenience to you due to lack of planning does not make a lemon law claim.

... So you already agreed to pay for the barge if service center visit is required? I'm no lawyer, but that sounds pretty cut and dry. I'm sure you could pay a lawyer to fight, but you'll lose, and it'll probably cost more than just barging it.
