I hardly ever press the brakes, yet I get a lot of the dark gray colored brake dust on my black wheels. I always drive with max regen. I don’t have this issue with my Tesla. Is the R1S faking the regen? I don’t have this issue with Model Y.

Is it your back wheels?

My theory is the e-brake. If you leave it sit for a few days I think it rusts slightly and sticks to the disk, when you drive free you release some dust. Also causes premature wear on the inside pad of the rear. YMMV

if you use Driver+ it'll use the friction brake to slow the vehicle to maintain its distance to the car in front of you. if you have dynamic brake assist turned on, it will apply the friction brake if the system thinks you might potentially hit the car in front of you. and there's the regenerative brake assist feature that will use the fiction brake if regen is limited.

It uses the brakes a lot more than we think actually... It really is not easy on the brakes like other EVs.

Truck burns through brakes. They are sneakily using them and not letting us know. 60,000 miles. I've done front brakes once and back brakes twice.

Blah blah blah. Don't come at me with I'm doing something wrong. Truck applies them a lot.

I have observed the brake pedal goes closer to the floor just after stopping using regen. I haven’t noticed other times, but I’m not that observant.

I would turn off the blended braking function, so you know when the brakes are being applied. At the 7,500 inspection I had limited to no brake use. By the measurements given I should get 110k miles before brakes are needed.

I agree that blending braking is most likely the culprit.

I turned it on when it came out (last year?) in a software update. Months later I noticed a lot of brake dust as well. I heard others saying it might be the issue so I turned it off. I’m just n=1 here, but since then I’ve had zero brake dust that I notice beyond just normal road grime.

How did I go through rear brake pads In 30,000 miles before that function was even released?

But as I have posted many times before. Rivian will tell you this is normal and charge you $1,000 to replace. Blended brakes feature never on.

Sounds like you have an issue. Not sure what to tell you. Maybe stop driving with two feet?

These are my rear brakes at 32k miles. Virtually zero wear anywhere.

I don't know if this is the reason, but could it be that it uses pads to keep surface dry for breaking in cold / snow /rain based on all the people with premature wear it looks like this could be the problem. I know this is something BMW, MB and many other brands do. The truck is very heavy as awe all know. I also heard or read somewhere that the blended breaking was original the default setting and until the update there was no way to turn it off. Might be that you guys made them do this as 30k is so early for pads on an EV.
