Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event is currently underway and we're here to bring you live pics of the event!

In case you missed it, Rivian sent out invitations last month to an exclusive event for the pre-order community to see and touch the R1T and R1S as well as an opportunity to speak to some of the designers and engineers responsible for the development of these vehicles.

We'll be updating with any photos and info throughout the event so keep checking back. Special thanks to L. Dandy!

Here's some Q&A info from the Rivian reps:
  • Warranty Length - They have decided the length but not disclosing til closer to production.
  • Service centers - Major Metropolitan areas will have a Rivian service center. Outside of those areas, Rivian will have approved service center locations that will be just as if you took your vehicle to Rivian itself.
  • Infotainment compatibility - They can’t say what will be available at production but they will have the capability to be compatible with Apple Car play and Android Auto. They wouldn’t say which company but they do have partners in the audio realm for a great sound system.
  • Entry / Keyfob - The handles are a larger Tesla M3 style making it easier to grasp. You will be able to use your phone and/or key fob to enter, preheat the interior and battery the vehicle. They also explained that the key fob would have a long life and hinted at a small screen being on the key fob.
  • Colors - They are trying to stick to the Rivian identity on the interior so they may have no more than 3-4 color options on the interior (NO WHITE).
  • Charging - Nothing new on charging. When asked whether there would be charging available on the driver side, they responded only on the front passenger side.

Nice!! Was hoping someone here would live post from the event. Looks like a big turn out. Are they letting anyone sit in it??

They have it roped off, disappointed but not surprised.

From seeing the vehicle up close it is definitely still in prototype form, meaning what looks like a rubber is fiberglass but that’s to be expected. These are the same vehicles they have taken to previous events. I personally prefer the RIS but majority of the attention went to the R1T

Thanks for the Q and A! One thing I never noticed but thanks to the pictures, it looks like the rear cargo compartment of the R1S has 2 large side pockets where you could put any number of gear or groceries or whatever. And, it has the same floor cargo hooks like the ones used to clip in the roof rack crossbars on the R1T. I wonder if they are planning specific accessories or if it’s simply a parts bin thing they used to have cargo hooks in the back.

Thanks for the pictures. From those pictures, it doesn’t look like there is much legs room in the third row. Or third row can be adjusted, like slide back and forth?

I think the second row is all the way back in it’s tracks in these photos. I assume there is a possibly 3-4 inches more room if the second row is moved up.

I tried to take pics of areas we haven’t seen much of.

The doors are an interesting bungee type system for the pockets.

I didn’t get good pics but the R1T had a lot of rubber trim on the lower areas like the seat frame whereas those were carpeted on the R1S.

There’s a pic of the rear seat lcd.

Also took some shots of the rear storage bins in the R1S. There’s additional storage below that rear load floor.

You’ll notice it has a bmw style drop gate on the R1S. Not my fave. I also couldn’t see any button to lower the gate.

Lastly there’s the headlight detail which is cool.

Overall interesting. No presentation (we didn’t stay long and I’m okay with that). Not a ton of new info. I’m still thinking this is priced beyond what I’m willing to pay.

After looking at the pictures again, I think you are right. The front and second rows seats look all the way back.

Interesting little air vent in the wheel well. Aerodynamics I’m sure.

I also did NOT see a flashlight in the passenger doors. We did get a set of pins and a water bottle. #moreswag.

My own pics from the event. All are R1T oriented, as I'm not interested in the R1S. Not much here others haven't posted, but thought I'd share in case there's anything here that people were looking for. I'm pretty excited, but a little worried about what gets dropped for the production model.

Great job Krell. Thanks for taking the time to share the event. You have kept me more than interested in keeping my reservation and getting the R1T.
