Note: I wanted to post this at "BestEvMod Key Fob Cover for Rivian R1T & Rivian R1S," but that Thread is closed.

Moderators: Feel free to move this to a better forum, as appropriate.

I happened upon this Rivian key fob leather cover. (Same product here, and mentioned here.) Judging by the photos, looks really nice; very protective, various colors.

Potential Issues:
  • New Gen 2 fob with shackle-unlocking button on the side.
  • These quality leather cases appear to fit very snugly. Will they unintentionally activate the unlock button, releasing the shackle?
(If designed with space around the button, a stiff leather cover could actually help prevent the unintentional release of the shackle.)

If anyone has had success with one of these quality leather covers with a new Gen 2 fob, please let us know.

(As near as I can tell, the design of the Gen 2 fob should not prevent the use of "surrounds" (also mentioned here) and cases that require shackle mechanism removal.)

Not sure, but the link I went to said "Not Adventure yellow" so I will need to fear it is "Fraud" yellow, but if I had a beer first, I could be fooled.

I know we are fooling around here. But some folks (e.g., individually, and by gender or race) are more sensitive to colors than others. (In extreme instances, people with "tetrachromacy", found genetically most often in women, tend to be more sensitive to shades of color due to an extra type of "cone" cell in the eyes allowing them to perceive a wider range of colors. Cool.)

Back to the subject at hand, I read and see (in photographs*) that the the pigments used for (a) the Rivian yellow brake calipers, (b) the bits of yellow on trim and insignia pieces, (c) "Compass Yellow" body paint, (d) the yellow tow hook covers, and (e) yellow cable ties are not necessarily always the same (as I've symbolically tried to portray by using different 'yellow' colors in this sentence).

I think that trucks with the yellow calipers and yellow tow hooks look good (even if the shades of yellow are not the same). Others may legitimately disagree. Their choice might be black (or red or green) or just bare metal tow hooks. It's all good.

In conclusion, I am unsure who "Gary" is. Does he have a Compass Yellow vehicle with yellow tow hook covers? Photographs, please.

* But photographs (in print or on computer screens) are notoriously inaccurate as to shades of color in real life. And even in so-called "real life," artificial and natural light effects how we perceive color, as we all know. Some animals perceive colors (e.g., like bees within the UV spectrum) that humans cannot. (On the other hand, some animals cannot see certain colors we can, or do not perceive color at all.) Blah, blah...

tps5352, You are so correct and well spoken and, skilled in your font colors!
I am honored to educate you as to the "Gary" identity, Gary is the Yellow Guy in the Rivian dashboard screen and T shirts that is AKA The Gear Gurad Guy. Or the Pet Guard Guy, Some people think he is cooler than the Cookie Monster, others are offended by his childish looks. This proves your stated points on the eye cones. I too will avoid any gender slander, with a last name of Chick, I will not go there.

Thank you. But I pride myself on keeping up with popular culture, and am embarrassed for not knowing.

I had previously seen Rivian's cartoon mascot--a whimsical representation of a "Bigfoot," "Sascwatch," or "Yeti" in '80s(?) Yuppie/hipster outdoor gear? But I didn't realize it/he had a name.
  • I'll cautiously sidestep the whole popularity debate about "Gary." Seems like a "love him or hate him" thing. (Our Country is so polarized these days.)
    |
  • Who would win in a confrontation-- "Gary" or "Karen"?
    |
  • For those new to this "Gary" thing, here is an at times hilarious thread (e.g., with link to Trunk Monkey videos).

  • I will say that the use of a cartoon character in screen software reminds me a little of Microsoft’s arguably helpful “Paperclip” and “Puppy” characters in old versions of Office software (e.g., Word). At least those could be removed if objectionable.
