I took delivery a little over a week ago of my Launch Green, Black Mountain, 20” AT, underbody shield R1S. I was a November 2019 preorder holder.

I love the truck despite a few minor trim / panel fitment issues.

I am not the best at taking pictures and mostly have them of the fitment issues from my service ticket…

I absolutely love the SUV. The delivery process was awesome and so far the interaction with service has been great too.

Almost all of the fitment issues are on parts that are R1S specific which makes sense given the relatively low vin of the vehicle.

I am posting them so those taking delivery after me can know what to look for:

-torsion bar for the tailgate was not installed properly and basically fell out of the tailgate. I was able to fix this myself. Lift up the spring loaded carpet flap at the tailgate and you will see the tortion bar.
- rear hatch fitment is off. The gaps at the top are too wide. (See photos)
- the silver metal trim around the top is loose at passenger front A pillar (see photos)
- the same trim piece is not aligned properly where it adjoins with the rear trim piece (behind rear doors)
- the hood is misaligned at the passenger headlight. I actually think the hood itself might be bent because it lines up well everywhere else…
- the window trim at the drivers rear door has a large gap and folds over if you put the window down making a loud noise.
- I have had an occasional clunking noice from the rear when starting from a stop at around 5 mph. It seems to only happen at standard ride height. And also seems not to happen in conserve mode… I first noticed it after the first time I tried conserve mode… So I am thinking it might be a sticking clutch or something like that…. It only happened today so I am hoping it will just go away!

Most of these issues should have been caught by QC; and maybe they were but parts were just not available to fix them. I have been given a service appointment in November due to parts not being available.

I got the front windows tinted today with xpel prime XR Plus 20% tint (cost $300 since I’m sure someone will ask!). This is the last photo.

It is pretty dirty and I have not washed it yet because we have had tons of rain in South FL and have a hurricane on the way… so more rain coming!

Glad to answer any questions other R1S reservation holders may have.

I don’t know how that silver trim in particular makes it past QC but as stated they are likely trying ti get these out quick. I have a small list if busy panel issues on my R1T that are super minor compared to these, and have a service appointment to get them addressed.. Then again my VIN is 109xx so I imagine they will get the SUV issues dialed in soon.

Enjoy the R1S, great looking rig! You’ll love it.

Excellent photos. They clearly show the issues you described. And they're very sobering. I've seen at least two other posts with photos that show similar alignment issues on the hatch.

For what it's worth, I doubt that factory QC missed the alignment issues between painted body panels. I suspect you're seeing the best compromises possible when your R1S was manufactured. (At the Honda factory where I worked in the 90's, the Japanese engineers called it "temporary OK") If the stamped and welded body panels don't fit right before any paint is applied, remedies later in the manufacturing process are limited.

In the 5th photo, I see a very tight gap between the painted rear edge of the left rear door and panel behind it. I would be concerned about that. A tight gap may be OK, but zero gap is not.

They really seem to be having trouble with those appliques, I believe they call them. First the front edge of the R1T roof and now the R1S as well as perhaps the R1S liftgate (hard to tell how it's put together from pics but looks to be same type of problem resulting from use of a semi floating panel installation).

Now I am thinking why did he even accept the vehicle? but reality is that i would've accepted too lol

But that is some sloppy work for an 80K ( 100K now ) vehicle. I hope they fix everything for you without having you wait weeks and weeks to get it back.
Congratulations!

Congrats! Thanks for photos...makes me want to reconsider the 21s!

The fitment issues make me kind of glad to be waiting a little longer for mine.

Don’t get me wrong I am super happy to have it. But, I have considered putting up for sale and ordering another one that would likely have at least a few kinks worked out.

But it is super cool driving something where most people say “what is that?”. A lot of people think it is a Range Rover. I think because of the rear end.

Also, it is easy To notice these things when you zoom a camera way in on them. But in reality even at delivery I didn’t notice most of them… it still looks great in person and most people would never notice the issues.

I do think it is floating… there is a clip behind the front of mine that is clearly loose. I think it should be an easy fix once they have the parts.

On the hood I think you are correct. But all the trim and the rear hatch I think were clearly QC oversights (or intentional ignore).

Also, the tortion bar in the tailgate really should have been caught. It really slams down without it and someone should have caught that. If I can fix it in my driveway they could have easily fixed it.

The gap behind that rear drivers door is fine. I think it is just the angle of the photo.
