I saw a post where the kuat pivot 2 fits. Rei is having a sale on yakima products, including the yakima backswing. I ordered one, but not sure it will clear the tailgate when extended.

Couldn't find the original post Rivian Dad had done on this, but I currently own the Kuat as well and will pick up the kuat pivot once I get the rivian. It's been such a solid rack even on bumpy dirt roads.

I ordered a 4" drop/riser extension from Amazon and it arrived today.
With it in the drop position, I can now open the tailgate fully as long as I don't have a bike in the inboard position. There are 2 holes on the extension and these pics are with the pin in the hole that minimizes extension.

No surprise, but it improves the space between the pedal and the tailgate.

Sliding the extension out further and using the 2nd hole with the pin still won't allow opening the tailgate with a bike on the rack in the inboard position. I didn't try, but looking at the pic it "might" work if the pedal was in the 12 o'clock position.

Do you think the KUAT hi-lo pro (with 2 inch drop) will work? Looks like 2 inch may not be enough?

We are running the hi-lo pro with a Thule T2 Classic. The T2 alone makes contact with the closed tailgate in the up position and with the open tailgate in the leaned down position. The hi-lo fixes both problems. Only complaint is we don't really need the full 11" of extension (half that would do), and the end result sticks out pretty darn far.

Just received the Kuat Pivot. It's a tight fit between the bumper but after tightening into the hitch there's very little flex and movement. I can force it to touch the bumper by pushing hard on it so I guess will need to be careful if driving on bumpy roads.

When you pivot it out enough for the tailgate to clear, there's about 3 inches of clearance when the tailgate is lowered.

There's 21 inches from the tailgate to the center of the first bike position on the Kuat NV 2.0, so plenty of room for the pedals. On my Cannondale I have about 12" from the tailgate to the pedal.

Thanks for the pics! Bummer its so close, but glad it fits. The Kuat Pivot 2 is 5 and 3/16 from center of hitch pin to closest part of rack, the 1UP RakAttach is 5 inches, and the Yakima Backswing is 8.5. The Kuat and Backswing have a cargo capacity of 250 and the 1Up is 275. Based on this, the Yakima might be another good option for people to look into. I have eBikes so was eying the 1UP, but that may not fit on my R1S, but I do have a few years to read posts and research fitment to make sure...

Some thick pipe insulation over that corner facing the bumper would provide some cushioning. Not the prettiest, but neither is a scraped up bumper...

Thanks, this is super helpful. Looks too close for my comfort. Too bad the Kuat racks seem to have these fit issues with the R1T, they're really terrific otherwise.

Thanks all for sharing. I’ve got the 4 bike Kuat nv with the Pivot v2, R1S is supposed to be here by December so I’ll fit and post picks once I have it. This is a super heavy setup with my family’s 4 ebikes, over the tongue weight recommendation on the Jeep and will be close on the R1S. Really great setup for short trips though
