That's a good price. The 10 year coverage is almost $7K now. Did you have a discount code at all, or was that the going price at the time you purchased?
Let me see if I can find it. I think it was for $200 or so. How many miles are on your truck? As I mentioned, each 10k interval of mileage is the price step function.

Watching as I too have an early VIN. Still happy and don't have any desire for a replacement, but would sell it if I thought out of warranty repairs were astronomical.

My biggest concerns would be unique to Gen 1 components like the Bosch motors (my understanding), but those should be covered until ~ 2030.

This is my plan as well. VIN 2488 and I’m at 61k miles now. I like *this* truck too much to get a different one.
Don't even think of changing your mind. I had my gen1 quad for 2 years. 22000 miles. Even after 2 years I was still in honeymoon period with that truck. I traded it with tri motor and regret it sooooo much. Not even close to my gen1.

Thank you!

I have a 22 R1T with 23K miles on it. The 10yr 125K plan is $6,945. It might be worth waiting until the end of the basic warranty as long as prices do not rise significantly..

$6,945
Term Length: 10 years
Miles: 125,000
Deductible: $100
Coverage Until Date: February 2035
Coverage Until Mileage: 148,000
Includes Battery & Drive Unit

Here you go. Not sure if it still works. It was either $150 or 200.

XcelerateTMC

It will only work if you prepay it all. They also have interest free payments for 10 months or something like that if you want to spread out the purchase.

Has anyone made a successful claim using Xcelerate Auto on a Rivian? The program is ideal for someone like me, who really loves the truck, but isn't excited about being out of warranty.

Not to my knowledge but I know Tesla owners that have. No issues with doing it.

I’m only at 25k on my 2022. Thought my plan would be to exit once the comprehensive warranty was over. But…

- Equivalent new R1 is $30k + $7.5k more than what I paid! Plus accelerated depreciation hit. I keep saying that to myself and am having trouble believing it. Crazy. (Plus my trade was valued crazy high after COVID)

- I’ve decided I’m not “upgrading” until I can get those fancy haptic wheels on the steering wheel. LOL

I think I’m going wait it out and see how the extended warranty pricing holds, the OG R1 holds up, depreciation on the G2, and any news on a G3 before I decide on my next move.

I have zero wants to get rid of my OG R1 and I couldn’t care less if there are anymore software improvements from here out. I’m as happy with it as I can be.

The last paragraph really resonates with me. It is the approach to all the Teslas I've purchased. Buy on what is currently shipping with respect to features, not what is promised or you think might roll out. If you get an upgrade or a feature you wanted, consider it a bonus. Then you won't be disappointed if it never materializes.

If Rivian doesn't do anything more than bug fixes for current issues, I would be fine with where I am at with my software. Yes, I still want launch mode on my G1 quad. It would be a nice to have, not a need to have. There are a few other things like that on their SW roadmap.

Thought about this a bit more after my first post:
If I would get a Gen2, it would be used Gen 2 R1T Quad earliest in late 2025 or early 2026.. I would buy used to mitigate the depreciation and besides the colors, there aren't many things to spec on a Rivian - so buying used is a great option imho.

At the moment though, the coming Scout truck is in the best spot to replace my 22 R1T. Just love the design, Rivian tech in it and the range extender. I would consider buying this one New just because the strong want and probably lower pricing compared to a new Gen2 Rivian.

I'm still wondering what the Gen3 R1 will bring though :)
It could be tempting if they do sth like an R1Tx trim and give it the special edition treatment like the R3X

I've got a 2022 R1T that has been great other than recalls and a few nags. It has < 30k miles, and just over 2 years left on warranty.

I'm pondering the same decision. Love the truck but not the costs of repairs.

In addition to the options discussed here, I'm thinking maybe trade-in on an R2 or a Scout. in a couple of years.

I guess this is the case with any used car, but there seems to be large discrepancy on what I could trade in my R1T for (maybe mid-$40k) and what it would cost to get a 23 or 24 ($70k+).

Also, I expect there will be a big increase in depreciation as end-of-warranty approaches. I'm still hopeful Rivian will announce an extended warranty.

Hi! My spunky little R1T Carter is about to cross 55k miles and is nearing the end of its warranty period. As one of the very early VINs ( #6709), it’s spent a fair amount of time with the Rivian repair shop. It’s never left me stranded, but since I’ve owned it, I’ve had HVAC, subframe replacement, half-shafts, cover, and other cosmetic issues.

Overall, I’ve been very happy with the truck, and I accepted the issues as someone who bought a very early VIN. I feel like I’m at an inflection point where I decide to keep it or go Gen2 (thinking dual motor large pack).

Anyone at the same point who kept the truck well past their warranty period?
Not to avoid paying for wear and tear, but consider buying the second gen Tri Max. The second gen improvements are many and will serve you better over time. Especially if Rivian offers a trade up incentive. Drive well

I like my truck but not sure if I like it enough to pay for repairs after the warranty runs out. My truck has had a lot of parts replaced (front subframe, HVAC system, alignment - twice, Bluetooth module in driver door and handle, power tonneau cover, going in next week as it's lost all connectivity so I'm guessing that'll be more parts and labor)which I'm guessing out of pocket would not have been cheap. My r2 *should* be ready before my warranty is up so I may just trade my truck in. To be determined.

Your scenario is one of the reasons why I bought an extended warranty. At the same time, maybe you've already replaced all the things that had issues, and maybe clear sailing from now on.

While the warranty wasn't cheap in my case, if it pays for one expensive repair, I'll get the value out of it. I think they may have underpriced it in Rivian's case, as there is not that much repair data. Sort of like making a mistake on a lease where they factor in too high of a residual value. If I do sell the truck, I can sell it with the warranty and ask for more money or just cancel the warranty and get a pro-rata refund.

If I did part with the truck, I have no idea what I would replace it with. All the Gen2's have a lot of new systems that we don't know if they will be more reliable than the Gen1's. I have a later Gen1 with a lot of the upgrades in Gen2's like the subframe. I've had most of the TSB's done and the truck feels a lot better than when I first got it. I got 10 years of extended warranty coverage so I have a long time to decide. Could be something that I like better than the R1T or maybe by then, the Gen4 will be out and it might be compelling enough to upgrade.
