Here’s the first customer delivery of Overland Ruff Rax bed rack system for the R1T (not affiliated with them at all)

I go into more detail on the Reddit page , but a quick rundown.

Rivian R1T R1S Just installed first production Overland Ruff Rax bed rack on R1T -- review & photos DJI_0032

I previously ran the tent on the bed with rivian racks. I had about an average of 1.8ish efficiency, now (small sample size) I am getting 1.99 efficiency. I have included pictures of efficient before and after the rack. I was very surprised by the efficiency boost, I believe it’s because now the spoiler directs the air below the tent, rather than directly at it. I will post a 1k mile update.

Also included pictures of visibility out the rear window before and after the rack. This was a huge perk for me.

This mounts to the factory receivers, no drilling required! Tonneau cover is still 100% usable.

I understand at first the price was a question for some people, they have since adjusted their prices but it is still a hard pill to swallow. From my personal experience with them, I believe it's worth the money, but everyone uses this truck in different ways, so for some people it might now be worth the money. Just to put this in perspective as of right now this is the only bed rack system you can buy right now, and one of the only ones who figured out how to use the special Rivian Receivers. Another commented on one of the forums was this "there may be a Rivian premium but the reality is the R1T is a much lower volume truck compared to the Tacoma and some of the other vehicles they make these for. I’m assuming they priced these so that the breakeven/profit point accounts for the lower number of expected units sold." which definitely makes a good point, we don't own a tacoma, we own a very low production and new to the market vehicle, it will take some time and competition until prices for accessories fall more in line with some vehicle you all may be used to.

Some of the main driving factors for this purchase for me personally, I wanted more bed access again, I wanted increased visibility, I want convenient mounting solutions for my adventures, and just simply love the looks of this!

If you have any questions, or picture requests, let me know and I’ll try my best to answer all of them! My goal is to answer as many questions as I can, supply as much information of the rack, take pictures, and provide an unbiased opinion! I will be doing my best to post updates along the life of them also

I assume that has to be the mini Ikamper? I got a used full size 2.0 so will be going over the cab for sure. Working with local guys next week on a rack option. Yours looks great.

I definitely like the visibility and the way they designed the base. Looks very sturdy.

This setup looks great! I am new to the forum as I am now a new Rivian owner! I just saw your reel on Instagram as well and asked about how you mounted the retractable awning to the roof mounts? I also very much like the increased visibility with this setup. Looking for a clamshell tent myself. Nice to know there's options starting to be available.

thank you! I’m new to the forums as well. I primarily only use Reddit and instagram, but thought I might as well try to share my experience in as many places as I can! The roof awning is from Yakima, it clamps around the crossbars and locks, I do plan on doing a different mounting solution in the future, but for now it works without complaints. Feel free to always reach out on instagram, I’ll always reply!

Thank you for the detailed report! Do you have any pictures looking straight at the front of the car. Do the racks protrude from behind the cab when you look at it from the front.

Also, could you attach another set of Rivian crossbars (or similar crossbars) to the top of this rack so that they are level with the crossbars on the cab?

That looks amazing.
I have this fantasy of kayaks or SUPs on the roof, RTT over the bed, bikes on a rack on the back. All at once. Yes, I know I would be looking at about 140 miles of range if I did all that. I love this rack but it does kill the roof bars for almost anything except bikes, doesn't it?
There are RTTs that have bars on them so you can mount kayaks or SUPs on top of the RTT itself, I suppose that could work and would probably be a similar range hit to putting them on the roof anyway. Doing that allows the superior visibility and the mounting and bed space afforded by the rack. Now all I have to do is convince my wife to get a second job :)

I do not have any front photos but I will take a straight forward and straight back picture tomorrow and post them in a comment for you!

They sell risers but I do not know if they are the exact size, but I don't think it would be hard to make something work, this rack is very modular, the options are pretty limitless

Yeah it definitely limits you, I have seen the other RTT with racks on it, so they could be a good option. I pretty much only mountain bike and some limit SUP, I definitely will primarily be throwing both of those in the bed now that I can have it angled out.

50% to 100% more expensive than the Toyota and Ford equivalent product – seems … excessive.
Looking at it, I was expecting somewhere around $500-$1000. A decent bed cap is $3K. A rack with some hold-punch panels … for $3300 … c'mon …

Given the modular design, there's no justification in asserting the Rivian is a niche vehicle with very few owners going to buy this rack.

@Josh.Gonzales96, thanks for great post. Looks solid.

Sorry if a repeat, but can you please further describe mounting method to factory points? Looks like it bolts to bed mounts rather than clamp and hook like the OEM crossbars?

Cheers and thanks.

Basically clamps into the factory receivers, then its thread, so the rack itself is bolted into their special clamp. Its a really smart design they went about it, hopefully he will post a YouTube video or something explaining exactly how he designed it and how it works so all can see!

But it feel very solid and secure! I am most likely getting the roof rack eventually so I will see if I can take a video of every step of mounting
