Just got a Gen 2 2025 R1S dual motor performance max. Some impressions:

Even in All Purpose, it is very fast. Doesn't feel that different from my large Quad T trade in. The cameras are awesome, the sport wheels look great and the programed seat and steering wheel are a lot quicker and their movements seem to overlap each other. I am getting used to the push button doors. I miss the storage under the rear seat and the frunk is a bit smaller and the tunnel is a huge loss.

I noticed one thing though. All Purpose seems 90% front wheel power and regen; almost nothing from the rear wheels. On my truck I almost destroyed my front wheels using Conserve. I tried gen 2 Sport but the projected mileage obviously dropped by over 30 miles but the tires front and rear were identical. I tried Snow and the projected mileage was the same as All Purpose and the front vs rear was identical. Would it be better to use snow? I would think full time all wheel drive would be inefficient. I probably don't know enough. Has anyone heard anything from Rivian on this subject or is my All Purpose not functioning correctly or am I just out to lunch.

All purpose on the dual motor automatically decouples to FWD when you aren't applying much acceleration. When you floor it, or when you are at low speed, it will be switch to AWD. Part of the "issue" with the quad conserve mode is it stays in FWD whenever you're in that mode, and people were accelerating quickly and driving around in stop and go traffic in conserve.

As long as you rotate your tires as recommended, conserve or not really shouldn't make a difference in total tire lifespan.

Quad also is very heavily front motor biased for braking in all-purpose. Especially at low speeds.

I wouldn't be worried about it personally, just make sure you rotate your tires as recommended.

Yeah… same front wheel drive bias for my Gen 1 R1T Dual Max in All Purpose. So I worry about excessive tire wear as well. Like you, I've considered driving around in sport or snow mode (in Florida ;-) just to get AWD… and not worry about the range impact unless I’m doing long road trips. But I think for this first set of tires I’m just going to rotate on schedule (including the spare) and see how it goes.

Good idea however when I switched from all purpose to snow the remaining range didn’t change. While changing to sport the range changed about 30miles. So I assume snow mode doesn’t hurt range.
