For those with Juicebox chargers, worth reading.

Dear Enel X Way USA, LLC Stakeholder,

After careful consideration, Enel X Way North America has decided to close its electric mobility business in the US and Canada, operated by the local subsidiary of Enel X Way USA, effective October 11, 2024. An experienced third-party firm will be appointed to manage the company’s affairs and ensure that the closure is handled with the utmost care and professionalism. The appointed firm will be responsible for managing the remaining obligations and communicating directly with customers and partners regarding the closure.

This decision is in line with the Enel Group’s strategic approach to e-mobility that pursues further growth by providing bundled offers, including private charging solutions, to its electricity customers as well as by developing public charging infrastructure in countries where it has an electricity retail business. By contrast, Enel North America has no retail electricity customer base and was active in the e-mobility segment only through the sale of charging hardware and software.

Additionally, the dynamics of the EV market in the US have changed quite a lot in the last year and, like many other companies, Enel X Way North America has been impacted by high interest rates which have increased the cost of scaling the charging infrastructure business in a framework of sustained uncertainty where EV sales growth expectations have not been met.

Here’s what you need to know:

Residential charging hardware (JuiceBox) will maintain the physical operating ability to charge vehicles.

All Enel X Way software will be discontinued. Commercial charging stations will lose functionality in the absence of software continuity.

The Enel X Way App and all other Enel e-mobility apps in North America will be discontinued and removed from the App Store.

Enel X Way customer support is no longer available, effective immediately. Any Enel X Way related questions and claims should be directed to juiceboxnorthamerica.com.

The decision to close Enel X Way USA, LLC and related impacts do not apply to Enel X Way customers in other countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Enel X Way North America understands that its decision has implications for those who had chosen its charging solutions. Inquiries regarding any outstanding matters, including customer accounts, orders, or obligations, can be directed to juiceboxnorthamerica.com.

North America remains a core geography for the Enel Group, where it will continue to focus investments in utility-scale renewables and demand response.

That's a bummer, my municipality has quite a few of these stations in use. The x way app is complete garbage to use for them, so I'm not entirely surprised. Still wonder what'll come of those stations.

I love how they blame it on market conditions.

JuiceBox was a market leader for smart EVSEs but their demise is self-induced. Software and customer support have tanked. It's amazing how far they've gone downhill since I bought my JB in '21.

A bummer nonetheless.

I've had no problem using the X Way app with Enel X DC chargers in Ashton and Driggs, Idaho. I'm more concerned about the (imminent?) closure of those stations.

Had a JB at my vacation house and it worked dependably...that app however sucked and never had any attention from them.

This is absolute nonsense. My JB40 has been experiencing random charging stops during the overnight session, I submitted a support request and this was the response:

"We're contacting you from Enel X Way Customer Support.
We hope this email finds you well. Concerning this inquiry, we'd like to inform you that a system issue is causing sessions to resume and stop at different points ahead of or during scheduled hours.
At present the IT Department is working on a solution for this inconvenience
. In the meantime, please turn off any notifications for start/pause events on Enel X Way. The charging schedule is to be followed inside those hours while any power consumed outside of it amounts to small fractions of a kWh.
Please let us know about any additional problems. We'll get back to you as soon as possible."

I guess I am SOL with this charger now.

Maybe I'll offer to convert them into free stations by gutting the electronics and replacing it with OpenEVSE stuff.

Good idea, my OpenEVSE has been flawless.

Got the same notification too :(

what will be the impact to home user?

- no more warranty, parts and support?
- are we still able to configure the charger with the app? Any alternative if the app going to be removed from app store?
- what if we need to reset the charger, is it going to be "bricked" because Enel server will not be reachable?
- how to setup the charger without the Enel App and server?

The only line that matters to me is "Residential charging hardware (JuiceBox) will maintain the physical operating ability to charge vehicles. "
I don't use scheduling so it doesn't really bother me that much. I will be looking at the Grizzl-E Duo if I replace it though.

Nice. I just got a juicbox installed about 6 months ago. I only chose it because it qualified for a rebate from my power company.
Still yet to receive the rebate. likely because I could never get the damn thing on wifi. It still charges good, so no complaints there. guess I'll look forward to something better when it dies.

Does anyone know if the Enel App will still work to scheduling charging times, and overall control of the charger remotely? There is no other way to control it otherwise.

I've just used the scheduling in the Rivian with no issues.
Might be a good time to get into the app and remove any schedule you have in there now. Otherwise, you may be stuck with it forever. Although, maybe you could reset the unit.

The App wouldn't stop working until next week as the notification state, so it will work now.
But i'm wondering if it will stop working after that. Good call on removing the scheduling now, just in case.
