March 18th Update:

Okay fellow, Rivarians…. Two CY welting packages arrived. The one I ordered and posted earlier in the tread, and the one that @Belem selected (darker one). Some shots to help you decide if CY or black is right for you - be sure to update your vote. I’m now firmly in the CY camp, will full endorsement from the misses, and former art docent!

Very well done! It’s easy to over doit in this type of mod, but that looks excellent IMHO.

I was referring to the yellow. I think the subtle yellow stripe ties in well with the truck. The all black looks like a typical all black running board. Nice, but not special or unique.

Seriously, the welting I used, as pictured, cost $10 total (thanks @Belem) and took a total of 15-20 to install!

One observation I made while installing the tread plates is that they sit flush against the 7 mounting surfaces that run between the parallel bars of the step. This prevents any over torquing of the fasteners from bending the plate.

If welting is inserted on the outside, it must be inserted on the inside edge and a same thickness of material should be placed over the 7 mounting areas to prevent the tread plate from bending when the 14 fasteners are torqued down. @jebinc, what is your take on this?

My take is simple (smile)... There is much more manufacturing variance in plate-to-frame mating (tubes and cross braces) than the thickness of the fine welt inserts. On my RBs, before torquing down, my plates are tight/flat up front, with a tab pit of play in the rear - so zero concerns with plate deformation from adding the welt. As mentioned, the welt also acts as a cushion and would compress/squish (technical term there) long before the 1/8" steel plate would deform. Make sense, @madgrey?

As an aside, this @Belem located welt also has a slight texture molded in, whereas the black I used earlier is smooth. This works well with the black textured RBs.

I believe @EV Sportline said the final design will have bolt on plates so you will be able to use your CY welting! Perhaps they can reply to this post with a definitive answer on that?
