So for the last year or so I have been prepping some land to create a farm / homestead and build a new house on the property. Part of that is getting temporary accommodations so I can avoid a 3 hour drive each way to work on the land.
Insert my, new to me, 2017 Grand Design Reflection Travel Trailer. (She absolutely dwarfs my R1T)
She has some good weight to her:
Dry Weight
7,895 lbs.
GVWR
9,995 lbs.
Hitch Weight
795 lbs.
Dimensions:
Length
33.92 ft. (407 in.)
Height
11.33 ft. (136 in.)
I charged up to 95% about 15 minutes away from the RV dealership that I bought my trailer from. A lot of the guys at the dealership were checking things out a few of them were interested in buying a Rivian so we chatted things up for a bit.
I left the dealership around 90% if memory servers me correctly. I know, shame on me for not taking detailed notes - won't happen again guys and gals. I arrived on the property with around 48% SoC after driving 65 miles. I kept the speed around 55-65 depending on the speed limit. I averaged a little over 1.04 kWh/mile during the tow.
I never felt the trailer sway behind me even when semi's passed by. I don't have an anti-sway hitch or anything like that, just a basic one. Towing was effortless and I went easy on the throttle most of the time though I did, once or twice, accelerate at a good pace just to test it out. I don't think I would want to drive this thing across country with how quickly the juice was sucked down. If I were going to actually travel I would definitely choose a slightly smaller, more aerodynamic trailer and lighter too.
