So for the last year or so I have been prepping some land to create a farm / homestead and build a new house on the property. Part of that is getting temporary accommodations so I can avoid a 3 hour drive each way to work on the land.

Insert my, new to me, 2017 Grand Design Reflection Travel Trailer. (She absolutely dwarfs my R1T)

She has some good weight to her:

Dry Weight
7,895 lbs.
GVWR
9,995 lbs.
Hitch Weight
795 lbs.

Dimensions:
Length
33.92 ft. (407 in.)
Height
11.33 ft. (136 in.)

I charged up to 95% about 15 minutes away from the RV dealership that I bought my trailer from. A lot of the guys at the dealership were checking things out a few of them were interested in buying a Rivian so we chatted things up for a bit.

I left the dealership around 90% if memory servers me correctly. I know, shame on me for not taking detailed notes - won't happen again guys and gals. I arrived on the property with around 48% SoC after driving 65 miles. I kept the speed around 55-65 depending on the speed limit. I averaged a little over 1.04 kWh/mile during the tow.

I never felt the trailer sway behind me even when semi's passed by. I don't have an anti-sway hitch or anything like that, just a basic one. Towing was effortless and I went easy on the throttle most of the time though I did, once or twice, accelerate at a good pace just to test it out. I don't think I would want to drive this thing across country with how quickly the juice was sucked down. If I were going to actually travel I would definitely choose a slightly smaller, more aerodynamic trailer and lighter too.

I used to have a 2020 grand design reflection, exact same weights. I down graded to a 2023 Winnebago micro mini flex. (Weight 4200 something. Max 5500, she weights in at 4900 loaded). I full time RV since 2019. Owned R1T since 1 Aug, I average 1.2 kMh. Driving 60, longest trip 300 miles. (Plan, plan and more planning.) Lol

I get bwtween 1 and 1.2 with my 28' Coachmen Apex UL. Thats about 5500 lbs give or take with all our stuff and a little water in the tanks.

Something that's 9,000 lbs i dont think would so too much worse... its the aero drag (box on wheels) that reduces efficiency.

I just towed a Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic on a tandem axle flat trailer which both together about 4,000 lbs and I was getting close to 1.4 with 10 mph winds and moderate rain.

A TT is a worse case for aero and I don't think a couple thousand lbs comes into play unless your climbing grades.

BTW my in laws have a 21 or 22 GDR and the wife loves it... wants one for herself.... only problem is ill have to tow it with my T.... too heavy for the S.
