Just got our R1S Launch Edition to replace the Model Y! Very exciting. Just fits on this side of garage (T goes on other side but there’s stairs here so I knew it would be tight).

Will do a write up in a few weeks on how a VERY early R1S VIN: 3XX is holding up as it approaches warranty (I’ll be bringing it in for a thorough check over before it’s up). So far, so good. Lucked out and it has the All-terrain package but owner just swapped for 22” Sport Dark right before trading in for the Cadillac EV. Not a huge deal but I like knowing the underbody shield is present.

Camp speaker also seemingly works just fine, even the fob and wristband work as they should.

One quirk I wasn’t aware of, my wife had to submit ownership docs and license to Rivian to setup the vehicle under her account (I’m primary on the T) and they said it will take 2-3 days. Doesn’t seem to affect much beyond using the app and service requests (I’m going to ask for the previous service log), but just a little quirk I hadn’t heard of previously about getting a used Rivian.

Oh and you all already know this, but the meridian sound system in here kicks the ass of my Gen2 R1T.

Proud to be “all in” on this company trying to make fun, powerful vehicles that are amazingly great to drive every day.

Congrats on the very early R1S! I have a '22 R1T, VIN 00004x and it has been phenomenal. Already have 55.5K miles on it and have an appointment for a full checkup in 3 weeks. I also just purchased the extended warranty from Xcelerate Auto. Might want to check it out here: www.xcelerateauto.com/xcare

How much did the extended warranty cost, if you don't mind sharing.

I purchased a 6yr/100K mile extended warranty w/ $0 deductible for $7,967 with mileage at that time right at 55K miles. It will go through 3/31/31 or 155K miles.

You have options of $0, $100, or $500 deductible and can play with the numbers to see pricing based on your current mileage or mileage when you want to pull the trigger. The closer you get to your current warranty to expire, the higher it gets.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Beautiful, congrats!!

Also, I look at your tight garage fit with bemusement and jealousy.

My T is stuffed against the wall next to my wife's GV60 and everything is appallingly close to something else.

Thanks @Tim-in-CA for the recommendation - my wife left open the hatch of her GV60 and closed the garage door, missed by literally a couple of millimeters.

You're welcome. Years ago, I wasn't as lucky. I was on a conference call and distracted and closed the garage door on the open hatch of my LR4. Luckily, damage wasn't too bad and PDR resolved. I need to park both of my vehicles as close as possible to the garage door opening to give me maximum room in front. The Infinity Shield works great, I've had it for 1.5 years with no issues.

Never been a fan of extended warranties. Overall, for most people, they are not worth it. I had ChatGPT analyze the contract for issues and here is what she said:

Many Common Wear Items Are Excluded

  • The contract explicitly excludes:
    • Tires, wheels, brakes, brake pads/rotors, bulbs, 12V battery, upholstery, paint, trim, moldings, body panels, bumpers, glass, and weather stripping.
    • Hoses, belts, clamps, coolant, and connectors (critical for EVs).
    • Charging equipment (mobile connector, wall connector, charging adapters) is not covered.
  • ⚠ Implication: Many expensive components that wear out over time are not covered.
Requires Verifiable Maintenance Records

  • You must follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, and proof of maintenance is required.
  • Receipts must be "computer-generated" from a licensed repair facility (handwritten receipts won’t count).
  • ⚠ Implication: If you fail to keep detailed records, your claims could be denied.
Arbitration Clause (Limited Legal Options)

  • Disputes must be handled through arbitration.
  • You waive your right to a lawsuit or class action.
  • ⚠ Implication: If a claim is unfairly denied, legal options are restricted.
