Hi,

I’m having some issues trying to get my tires rotated. I had mobile service scheduled and they came out today and said that they couldn’t lift the truck because the jack points are covered ( EVSportline rock sliders). I tried talking to service center about it and they basically said we can reschedule you after you uninstall the sliders. I also went to America’s Tire and they weren’t too familiar with Rivian because they didn’t know much about it other than they HAVE to use the jack pucks. Les Schwab seemed promising since they told me they could do it as long as they didn’t have a car on the vehicle hoist.

Is anyone else with sliders having this issue as well. If you aren’t where are you taking it to? I’m in Southern California, closest service center to me is Eastvale, but I don’t mind driving to LA county or Orange County if any of you have had no issues there with your rock sliders. I could also just do the rotation myself but also asking for if/when Rivian needs to lift the car to do some service. I don’t want to have to remove the sliders everytime.

Thanks

Others have posted about this in the past. I would have thought the sliders left the holes for the jack pucks since that is the place to lift the vehicle. Seems like a design flaw.

Common among those who have this particular slider. Other posts say the siders have their own puck locating holes directly under the factory jack points. But, if Rivian Service don't want to hear it or deal with it at all... Figure out other ways to get your tires rotated: DIY, Discount Tire, Amercia's Tire, or chat up a local independent tire shop (provide them with a set of pucks and pages from the Owner Guide or Tow Operator Guide about lifting procedures, and where to insert the pucks... set them up for success with everything and anything they could possibly need).

If not DIY, try to book the first appointment of the day. So the techs are not rushed and will take their time to avoid mistakes. Some people suffered damage going to DT. If you know how to use the forum search, you'll find those tales in seconds.

I have the same sliders. My SC has done a lot of work including alignments on my truck without questioning the sliders.

I’ve also had Discount Tire do work including rotations and new wheels/tires. There is a hole for the pucks but their pucks weren’t fitting in it well (known issue with some of these EVS sliders). But since EVS says, and I’ve done it without issue as well, that you can jack up anywhere on the sliders, I’ve just told them it was okay at Discount and they did it with success and we moved on with life 😁

How do you build and sell something so highly specific and engineered and completely miss this?

It’s a tire rotation. Not rocket science. They can jack on the control arms as well. I have a mobile tire service just come to my house and do rotations. I just asked him to bring a high-lift jack. I understand needing to remove it for balancing or if they need to put it on a lift, but for a rotation… Rivian doesn’t need to do that.

And aside - That Rivian still doesn’t see that there is an egress / ingress issue with these trucks and many normal people is beyond me. When I had my R1T and my Bronco Raptor, that is a good bit taller, but has rails and steps, folks of many non 6’ sizes struggled to get in and out of the Rivian. Even when slammed in kneel mode which seemed like useless duty cycles on the suspension. Folks had no problem just hopping up into the BRaptor.

Not surprised that Rivian service pushed back as well, they have no time for anything other than by the book, easy with their service wait times and backlogs. Find and I dependent who you can talk to.

I just had rotation done via mobile service about two weeks ago - the tech asked me about jacking with the sliders, expressed concern about damaging them - I told him what I read on the EV Sportline site prior to purchasing, which was that the truck could be jacked anywhere along the sliders, and gave him permission to do so, and that's all he needed. No issues during or after.

Also live in SoCal, about 20-ish minutes from the El Segundo service center (say it with me - depending on traffic)

The Gen 1 EVSportline sliders were designed before Rivian decided to mandate that SCs should only lift from factory points. The sliders do have holes in the structural steel to accept the jack pucks, but SC won't use them (in Houston anyway).

I have told the fellas at Discount Tire to use those dedicated holes, but they ended up just using the slider frame to lift without pucks. This is acceptable anywhere along the slider frame.

FYI...after removing my EVSportline sliders for a service appointment, the techs admitted that they probably could have used the factory lift points if I removed only the skid plate and left the slider frames on. Still a hassle for me, but not nearly as much as totally removing and re-installing afterward.

I have the Weistec rock sliders installed on my R1S. My local independent tire shop has been happy to do my rotations and I’ll be using them to replace my original Pirelli AT tires with Goodrich KO3’s in a couple of weeks.

Weistec sliders differ in retaining access to all four lift points between the R1S and R1T versions of their sliders.

Here is how they describe the difference on their website: “Our Rock Sliders are capable of using the factory Rivian mounting points, or simply use our frame to support the vehicle on a lift. The R1S sliders have provisions in the front that allow the use of the OEM jack points. While the rears are covered, the sliders include built-in provisions for the jack points. While on the R1T, the sliders enable the use of all factory mounting points.”

Used to live in El Segundo, until '10. Wasn't the joke 1-hour between any two given points? Probably much worse now.

Ditto. I have the DCE rock sliders and the Portland SC has not had a problem with them.
