I’m planning a trip to Tucson in the spring and am having trouble figuring out if there is fast-charging for Rivians in Tucson. I’ll be there for a week. I’m doing a round trip from Colorado. I’m new to Rivian. Thanks for the help.

Get the app ABRP (A Better Route Planner). You can pull up the map and see stations around Tucson. There are 50 kWh stations and a few faster, some slower as well. You will have options.

Welcome! EV life is an exciting new adventure! A few things that I've found immensely helpful
1) The built in NAV has pretty good charger listings and ratings. When you put in a destination, it will automatically tell you how to get there and where to charge along the way.
2) PlugShare App - this app is the most comprehensive list of chargers available to EV drivers. You can filter and sort by amenities cost and charging speed.
3)ABRP App - this app is owned by Rivian but open to all EV drivers. It's also an incredibly helpful route planning tool that takes into account whether, efficiency of your vehicle, etc. to help you plan out a route and where to charge.

Happy Roadtripping!

Also a couple quick tips for road tripping with an EV:
1) charge more than the recommended amount. If it tells you to charge to 50% charge to 60%. Always good to have a little bit of extra buffer.
2) EVs charge significantly faster at low states of charge. It may seem counterintuitive, but often times it's faster to take more frequent, but short, charging stops, rather than fewer long charging stops. (For example Charing 10%-50% twice, rather than 10%-90% once)

Excellent! Thanks for all the help.
I love the EV life and am especially excited to have joined the Rivian universe.
I actually have a Tesla and done a number of long roadtrips in it. The Tesla charging system is really good but I know not all of them work with Rivians. It will be interesting to use charging systems that I’ve bypassed in the past.
I’ll download the ABRP app and check it out.
Thanks again and happy road tripping!

On the way into town coming from the north there are good EA chargers at the Tucson Premium Outlets east off the I-10 exit to Twin Peaks Rd. A few miles past that there are good newer EV Go chargers at Target east off the Ina exit, and 1 mile later are Tesla chargers east off the Orange Grove exit that work with the adapter. There are others southeast of downtown but the best are those north ones. Around town it’s mostly level 2 charging but there are a bunch; especially around downtown and the University (ChargePoint in most U parking garages). So, as said before, download PlugShare.

There is a Tesla super charger in Tucson. I used it about 2 weeks ago with a Tesla, but it was a V3 cabinet so it should be compatible.

Rivians are not restricted to Rivian branded, owned or operated chargers. Any public charging network that supports CCS1 (level 3 DC fast charging) or J1772 (level 2 AC charging)r will charge a Rivian. Futhermore, you have access to select Tesla Superchargers (level 3 DC fast charging) that are open to non-Teslas (NACS-to-CCS1 adapter required).

In addition to ABRP app you can also use your Rivian mobile app and the in-vehicle nav to investigate and plan. You can also use Rivian's Trip Visualizer on this page: https://rivian.com/experience/charging

Since Rivian bought ABRP, June '23, and integrated the app's features... that app is almost unnecessary.

Your best bet is to check for yourself using plugshare, ABRP and/or the Tesla App (if you have an adapter) to locate DC fast charging.....

Another great tool is PlugShare, available through app or website. The screenshot below is Tucson with filters set to the following. Green markers are Level 2, and orange are Level 3
- (assumes you have a NACS adapter) Plugs= CCS1, NACS, J-1772
- "Hide Tesla-Only stations"
- Hide dealerships
- Networks= All
- Hide restricted access

I have used this app for 8 years on every cross country trip. There are user comments at each site to give you an idea of how well the chargers work. You also have info on price and amenities.

Enjoy your travels!

Thanks! I was there last year in a Tesla Model 3 and used the supercharger on the north side but it doesn’t show up on the Rivian app, at least I haven’t figured that out. It sounds like there are a lot of good options. Getting there will be interesting. I’ve never trusted Electrify America but then again I’ve never had to use them. I’ve been spoiled by the Tesla Supercharger system. Thanks again!

I just checked my Rivian app and it shows up. Check the filter button on the upper right and make sure you don't have "Adapter Needed" flipped on in the Hide section. Like you, I've stopped there in a Tesla several times, but haven't yet in a Rivian. I travel there from Phoenix and can now go there and back without charging in my R1S  . But I've checked in the past for all compatible chargers between Tucson and Flagstaff while researching before buying the Rivian and the Tucson one comes up as compatible in the Rivian app, ABRP, PlugShare and the Tesla app.

One other note, I've used the EA at Walmart in East Flagstaff with an adapter and my former Tesla and those chargers are terrible. So, I recommend trying the Rivian chargers at the Walmart near I-17 / I-40. I haven't used them yet, but the reviews on PlugShare are good.

I have charged my R1T at the Tesla SuperChargers on Orange Grove. I think there are 16 chargers, so it is a good option (and the closest high speed DCFCs to the center of town).

I've charged in Tucson a number of times, mostly at Superchargers, but also others. I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson though is a challenge. No compatible Superchargers, and the EA stations are fucking garbage.

I have successfully used the EA chargers at Walmart in Casa Grande quite a few times. It is likely that one or more out of the four will be inoperable, but I don't recall having to wait much (if any). And I have always gotten a charge with a reasonable charge rate.

EA at the outlet stores: Fully dead, all stations.

EA at Casa Grande: Half ICED by a work truck for four days, charge rate 60. Move to another stall, charge rate 50.

It's also quite ironic and sad that the stations at TEP (the local power company) NEVER EVER work.

All of the ones across from Hotel Congress...always dead, though they appear to be on.

There's some station around Orange Grove I think, that's a bit off the highway, works but never half the promised speed.

Etc.

Good times.
