My wife got sideswiped this morning and the other driver got pretty much the entire passenger side. Fortunately cameras recorded the entire thing and it’s clear that it is the other party’s fault. Just want some insight on what to expect for others who have had collisions.

PS- ignore the blue reflections on the upper part of the door panels (just a reflection from my garage door windows)

Based on the two pictures and my recent (limited) experience with Rivian body work, I'm thinking about $20k. Rear panel ~$14k, door ~$5k. But that's pure guesswork. It's crazy how interlinked things are in these vehicles! You think "well, that's just a rear bumper" and the next thing you know, they're replacing your spoiler and repainting your doors! Bring it to a certified collision center for reliable numbers.

Much more importantly, I infer that your wife is uninjured physically. That's terrific! I'm glad your "tank" protected her.

I don't know what your insurance is going to say but forty years ago I would be looking at a large can of bondo, vise grips, hammer, primer, and a decent paint job.

Things hiding under the top layer have changed. How many parts will be the issue.

Your estimate will be of general interest.

Perhaps we do need to return to the days of a good body, paint shop and not just replacing things, and disposing of them when there are too many to replace. Are there still any good paint and body pro`s around or are they extinct in the tech era?

Too hard to say, they are going to have to repaint at least half the car so it won't be cheap.

Wife had exact same type of damage as yours. Took it to the certified Rivian Repair shop that the Eastvale service center uses. The name is Ben Clymers Body Shop in Riverside. I think the claim to our insurance was about $5k but ended being $6800 once it was completed.

Having had repairs done at two seperate Rivian Certified body shops, I would take to Ben Clymers over having the Costa Mesa SC use their local body shop. That shop made a mess of our car and does not do as good of work as Ben Clymers did. Ben Clymers work and attention to detail was better overall.

Definitely sucks. Probably not totaled. Push to get a similar sized vehicle as a rental from the other person's insurance as well as pursuing a diminished value claim as that repair will show up on the CarFax report for the vehicle.

Reviving this thread…..long story short, R1S is still in the shop. Fortunately it was drivable after the accident so I just took it in about 4 weeks ago.

First delay was a backlog at the Rivian Certified Collision Center (European Motor Works). They expected to get the vehicle in November 2024. Unfortunately, I was also affected by the back ordered rear door that others are also facing. My door didn’t arrive in the shop until March 2025! Thankful that my vehicle was drivable, empathetic towards those who don’t have drivable vehicles!

So far the repair costs are over $23,000. However, the shop is expecting another supplement once they try to align it as they are expecting suspension components are also bent, but need to prove it to the insurance with the alignment. Hoping to get it back in about 2-3 weeks. Will update the final cost once I get it

Just picked up the vehicle this morning. It was in the body shop for 6 weeks exactly. Total repair costs was over $25k.

European Motor Car Works in Costa Mesa (Rivian certified collision center) was great. Very responsive and professional and they did a nice job on the repairs.

Still need to peruse the other party’s insurance for diminished value, rental vehicle reimbursement and other out of pocket costs. All in all I think the total claim amount is going to be close to $40k.
