Is anyone else as pissed off/frustrated at having to pay for the reinforced underbody just because I need the 20” wheels?

I need the 20” wheels because of bad roads, potholes, frostheaves, and general winter driving. I live in New England and specifically Maine, not Utah. I won’t be crawling slickrock. I don’t need the reinforced underbody to protect the truck from deep snow. There are few to no tire options for 21" wheels and 22" wheels are foolish in New England. It might seem trivial to the Rivian people, but I resent having to pay for reinforced underbody just to get the sensible 20” wheels.

No issues with my 22s in Michigan last winter (with snow tires) nor driving way too fast down our dirt roads.

Edit: Oh but my truck has the underbody shield too so...?

What snow tires did you get?
HAKKAPELIITTA R5 SUV 275/50 R 22 115R XL. 115 is what my stock tires are rated at but I think Rivian might be mostly shipping new trucks with 116? Either way Rivian won't touch non OEM tires. Belle Tire did the installation but I brought them a set of wheels and set of tires.

Consider it insurance that protects the battery pack from road debris, hazards. I've run over my fair share of crap that has hit the underside of my vehicles over the years.

Seems like a great deal to me 20” wheels, under body protection and 20” spare On the R1T for 3850 and includes the inflatable spare on the R1S for 3600.

the 22s are 2500 and the 22 dark are 3500 and those are no spare and no shield.

You could get 22s with good winter tires. I have the stock 20” AT tires and will still be swapping to winter tires.

Umm, underbody shield is not a requirement for selecting 20" AT's. Nothing to be pissed off about

it was changed a few months ago where the underbody came as a package with the 20” AT. I’m not bothered by that change as much as I am about the manual tonneau covers.

There are numerous R1s in the R1 Shop right now with 20" ATs and NO Underbody Shield...

I have an older reservation and was able to drop the underbody and keep the 20” A/T’s.

I’m looking to lighten up the truck for sand driving. I also have rust to worry about. Not rock crawling and the standard underbody has satisfactory protection for the battery. The stock truck is road worthy safety wise as manucatured, any Tesla owners getting damaged underbodies or batteries?

When I was configuring my truck, the choices were the 20" and underbody package or other sized tires. Immediately after configuring my truck, I asked my guide for access to the R1 shop but never got the option. Was matched with a VIN about a week later.
