@electruck4x4 released their Gen2 Megawatt rockslider/step in December. After reseaching Rivian rocksliders this one seemed to be the sturdiest of those available. It is also the only one with kickout flares at the front and rear for extra protection. (I feel like they are beefy enough to support the whole weight of the vehicle—if I ever need that!). They are about $2K when on sale.

The hardest part is taking the underbody plastic off first because of the spring clips on the edge of the car, but you can find videos online on how to do that. Then you losen five large TP55 Torx bolts and remove two 17mm bolts. I set the rockslider on two 5 gallon buckets, and with the help of my son, slipped them on the losened bolts on the edge and reinserted the the 17mm bolts on the two flanges. Then with a torque wrench and some blue thread locker, torque down all 7 bolts to the specs in the instructions. The sliders do cover up the jack puck holes, but there are holes in the slider you can use, or you can use a standard lift on the sliders. Customer service at this small family-owned business was great. I highly recommend. My grandkids also like the extra step to get into my R1S. Installed my new custom plates at the same time.?

I have these on my Gen 2 R1S
Good. I see now that the Electruck 4x4 site has two different versions, one for Gen 1 and one for Gen 2 R1S. Apparently still only for Gen 1 R1T, however. Maybe a fouth version coming soon?

Thanks.

I may try to put together a comparison table of the more common running board and rock slider products. There is a lot for a new customer to consider when choosing.

I was just at the fan shop that helped design and manufacture these sliders to see how the brackets line up for the Gen 2 R1T. They will be updating the brackets and soon have Gen 2 R1T compatibility.

  • Do these allow the Rivian oem plastic underbody panels (on Gen 2 R1S) to be reinstalled (once the rockslides are installed)? Or are you required to leave the Rivian plastic panels off?

  • Any potential conflicts with the All Terrain Package (Gen 2 R1S) with the Rivian "Reinforced Underbody Shield"?
I'm no expert, but based on those photos, these look very beefy, compared to the average running boards and even other rocksliders. (I look forward to doing a more comprehensive review and a deeper dive comparing features of the various name-brand products on the market. Tax return first, though. Ha, ha.)

If you do this, could you also include how far out each one sticks out from the body for protection?

Megawatts definitely look the sturdiest and best built FWIW. Also only one with a rear kick out.

No. The underside panels are not replaced after the sliders are installed
  • Any potential conflicts with the All Terrain Package (Gen 2 R1S) with the Rivian "Reinforced Underbody Shield"? No conflicts with the Gen 2 R1T ATP. As you can see I have 20” AT rims and this was evaluated with the RUS. As for R1S they have already released that product and no conflict.

My flange hole patterns look different than yours for my Gen 2 R1S as shown in the instruction photo (of non-powder coated prototype).

You do NOT reinstall the oem plastic underbody and they are not needed. I am keeping mine since it is a lease in case I turn it in instead of buying out the lease

My Gen 2 R1S has all-terrain tires and the all-terrain underbody package, and the Megawatt Rock Sliders fit just fine. I had to wiggle them a little to get them to slide over a few bolt heads near the front that are not removed, but that was discussed in the instructions. Electruck4x4 had me peek under the plastics to confirm my TP55 bolt locations before they shipped my order as they had one customer with non-standard bolt locations on a Gen 2, but mine lined up with official Gen2 bolt design.

Gen 2 R1S with a post Aug 2024 build date have a different bolt pattern, than the Gen 2 R1S built before that date.
