Insane towing range estimate

2025 R1T DM Max. At this range my truck would be close having a 300kWh pack at that efficiency. My 2023 R1T embellished the range, but not this much. The 2023 calculated about an 165kWh pack. Affects charging calculations on road trips. Just got done with an 1800 mile road trip towing. It calculated I could do 165 miles on 65%. Couldn’t do that on 75%. This range kept going up since the start of the trip. Using ABRP to verify miles remaining at next stop. Rivian: you bought ABRP…use it!

I haven't experienced such issues. R1T Tri. So many variables impact range as does driver behavior, thinking, and expectations.

Maybe it's accidently showing actual current range since you are not plugged in. Looks like a bug.

It will gradually adjust this as you tow that trailer. The data is stored for the life of the vehicle.

Well since it is clearly wrong and unusual, why don't you just refresh the estimate? It has nothing to do with ABRP - somehow your calculation glitched, so do it over again. That's never happened to me.

Rivian has a history of horrible towing estimates and updates unintentionally breaking the calculations used. Wouldn’t be a surprise if the new update did it again.

This is about the towing range I got on my 2023 R1T DM Max pack. If this is a bug, it’s a big one. Should not be using this inflated range to calculate how much to charge and how much range at the next stop. Again Rivian should be using ABRP’s calculations.

Did not clear it as I wanted an efficiency number for the entire trip. I put 13K miles towing on my 2023 and this did not happen. Did not have to use ABRP. I know it’s wrong, but a someone new would not until they are several miles out from a charger and the truck dies. Garbage in…garbage out.

Just towed our empty boat trailer from San Antonio to Corpus Christi yesterday. Our estimates weren't nearly as wacky as the OP, but they were certainly off quite a bit. It kept trying to force a stop at a fast charger, but we stuck to our guns and arrived with 60 miles in reserve.

To quote my wise wife, who has had her Nissan Leaf a few years longer than I've had my R1T:
"I learned early on that all range estimates are pure fiction; you have to use your own brain and common sense."

Yes, I've noticed ours as well will say well over 200 miles of range when it can barely do 150 if everything is perfect. And it has over 1000 miles of data on this trailer.

2025 R1S Max Pack Dual motor. After towing 2700 miles the "Range at 100%" shows 373 miles yet the mi/kWh shows 1.43. Assuming a 140 kwhr pack 1.43 x 140 would be 200 miles. There seems to be an algorithm error in calculating the "Range at 100%" (or a misunderstanding of what this value is intended to represent). The 1.43 seems about right given my actual experience.
