My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I just got my R1T back after a medium stint at the South SF service center.

First off - major shout out to them, again. They're consistently wonderful people and great to work with, and the communication was pretty good through the process. The truck was there a total of 2 weeks. It was being worked on during the 2nd shift.

For a while now, my truck had little squeaks which I suspected were jounce lines, bumps which sounded truck-ish but not in a good way, clunks which I catastrophized were failing subframes or drive units, etc. Over broken pavement it would transmit into the cabin and it wasn't great.

All of those sounds are gone. Here's why:

1) Half-shafts and wheel bearings replaced in front (L and R). There was also a grinding noise which was a telltale that they locked onto.
2) Jounce lines replaced
3) Right rear damper replaced

The truck is -dead quiet- now. No weird noises, no wiggles, no squeaks. I can only hear the wind noise because everything else is like a coffin.

For comparison, the rental EV Silverado I had measured 68-74dB at 70mph on a smooth section of 280. Same section, same speed, 58-62dB in the Rivian. That's a massive difference.

That's my concern now - smooth asphalt and its great - anything else at any speed is just about any type noise imaginable

I had similar situation and fixes on my G1 R1T - before it was totaled. My G2 R1T is still very early days… does it seem this is largely a G1 issue, or are there many G2 owners still requiring these repairs?
(Edit) And…
Is this typically seen as a one-time fix? Are redesigned retrofit parts being utilized on these repairs such that the issues are unlikely to reoccur. Or are the (G1/G2) front suspension parts (hubs, half shafts, jounce lines, dampers) seen as something that are going to have to be replaced repeatedly over say a 10 year ownership?

I had similar repairs and I can confirm the difference is night and day.

The vehicle is much quieter and takes up speed bumps, dips, rough roads and potholes with ease and no noise.

Fresh tires along with the Rivian repairs have made it feel like a new vehicle. Almost what I remember the Gen 2 suspension feeling / noise / behavior was like when I did a test drive.

Keep in mind I pretty much only drive in Firm on 34" All Terrain tires which do a great job with maintaining a comfortable ride.

I've had these clunking noises at the front and rear of my '24 T since new. I raised the issue with my local SC on a visit and had jounce lines replaced and something in the center console done. Over the winter the clunking went away but resumed when the weather warmed. I had the truck back at the SC to have new wheels and tires installed and raised the issue again. I did a ride-along with the lead tech, who stated that the clunking I heard was normal and not indicative of anything malfunctioning. While it's bothersome (the 20s did help a bit; I was on 21s previously) I've decided to just live with it.

I've had hubs, shafts, and ting washers replaced....the washers twice....the noises come back....unfortunately. The only thing it didn't fix was the driveline clunk when vehicle is facing either uphill or down at a standstill and first starts to move.

Wow! This is the one complaint I have about the truck. Looks like Rivian has a retrofit program. I guess it is time to open a ticket.

I have always assumed that was the electronic parking brake releasing

My R1T is currently in for a "quest" to fix the air leaks in the front suspension and suspension system overall. I made no complaints about the noises, so will be interesting to see what they decide to replace.

Yes, all kinds of noises coming from suspension too. Yesterday I went 15 mph in AT mode in a grassy field and it felt like solid metal bushings and completely bottomed out dampers like my track car...
I guess that is not normal...

Anyone with a Dual Motor have any of this work done. If so... post the part numbers.

Dampers and half-shafts.

Gen2 suffers the same, in fact, my Gen2 was only "quiet" for about a month. My Gen1 lasted about a year before the issues arose.

The question for those that had the issue 100% resolved...will it come back? Rivian is still using the same crap halfshafts and such. Jounce is a different story because they have an improved assembly they are using.
