Just another reminder that if you’re letting Discount Tire or any places other than a Rivian SC jack up your car, watch them like a hawk. Even if they give you the dirty look hinting that you’re bothering them. Even if they ensure you they know what they’re doing.

There were older posts about Discount Tire jacking up Rivians at the wrong spot and damaging the undertray or other components.
I thought they should’ve got the memo by now.

It almost happened to my car this past weekend while they rotated the tires. I was running around checking the jack points as 4 guys using 4 floor jacks to jack up the car at the same time. I stopped one of the guy just in time as he was pumping up the floor jack. He lined up the puck to the screw hole instead of removing the flap covering the jack point.

Same thing happened to me about 2 months ago. I did not catch them in time for all 4, did catch them in time for 2...

Such a pain in the rear.

I've yet to let any tire shop lift my Rivian as I do my own rotations. When the time comes, I plan to open all of the lift point covers so they are dangling down...then watch them like a hawk!

Yep, for all the hype that Discount Tire is "trained" to work on Rivians, most don't even have the pucks. When I had my tire rotation done they used my JackPucks and commented wow these are way better than the broken ones we have. They will use their Tesla pucks on your vehicle and they aren't quite 100% the same, if they even have pucks. Buy a set of JackPucks and leave it for them to use if you want them treat your vehicle correctly.

One of the primary reasons we developed our Magnetic Jack Pucks was to prevent the damage caused by improper lifting practices on Rivians. Some shops have made costly mistakes, such as lifting directly on the frame rails, using incorrect port locations, or resorting to random pieces of metal—or even Tesla pucks, which don’t fit. Unfortunately, these incidents have affected many Rivian owners, even at reputable establishments like Discount Tire.

The issue became so widespread that we introduced Jack Point Emblems for the four plastic caps, ensuring shops could easily identify the correct lifting points. Despite claims from some shops that they “know how to lift Rivians,” we’ve seen too many mistakes to count. It’s disappointing, but it underscores the demand for a solution—one that’s led to the sale of nearly 20,000 pucks to date.

The picture below shows the damage caused by a Discount Tire shop attempting to lift a Rivian from the wrong location. It might seem surprising, but we had to create a dedicated emblem to help prevent these mistakes—and it’s made all the difference.

Has anyone tried having mobile service put on (non-OEM) tires?

I tried to have mobile service put on 20" OEM tires and the advised against that since the 20's like road force balancing better and that can't be done with the mobile equipment they have.

I ordered some Jackpucks.com Magnetic Jack Pucks and then contacted tirerack.com for some Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5s with MSW 52 wheels and TPMS sensors. They showed up at my house two days later via FedEx with free tire mounting/balancing and TPMS installed. That way I could take my time and install my own wheels/tires in the driveway and not worry about some yahoo at the tire store screwing anything up.

Each time there is a thread like this, new orders come rolling in. We are so grateful to the support we have from fellow Rivian Forum Owners. Thank you!! Order by 3pm (AZ Time) and on the truck it goes to you!

We have more and more Discount Tire Store Managers directly purchasing our magnetic jack pucks, as opposed to the Rivian supplied units. The same has been true for quite a few Costco store managers.

A couple months ago we delivered 1300 pucks to all CarMax locations in the USA, which have in-house service (from base to comprehensive).

Discount Tire and reputable, what a laugh! I've had them destroy the dust boots on my steering rack because they were lazy and didn't remove the clamps before adjusting tie rod ends. I had them destroy brake lines hoses by letting the calipers drop when the calipers were removed ftom the spindles. I'm sure there are some shops that care, but I've written off ever using them on any of my vehicles.

Of course, Les Schwab isn't much better, they lied about a screw in the tire to try and sell me new tires. When I had a different shop mount the tire, there was no leak and I know no patch was ever applied.

Moral of these stories is, watch em all like a hawk. If they don't like it, it is because they know they aren't doing things right.

Count me among the recent orders. Shopping around for a tire place in central PA that will work on a Rivian has been daunting. Let alone where one might end up on an adventure…

Thank you! Many customers in smaller towns across the U.S. and Canada rely on local tire shops for service. If you show the owner how tire changes are done on a Rivian and provide the pucks, most are willing to help. That’s why we created a simple tire service video—they can watch it a few times, and you can guide them through the process.

Agree completely. Also helps to tell the person checking you in that you insist they use the OEM jack points.

Also, before my last tire rotation, I pre—marked my tires. Sure enough, they did NOT follow Rivian’s recommended rotation pattern. I needed to have them undo what they did and follow Rivian’s pattern. 🙄
