I’m also considering buying a refrigerator/ freezer that utilizes 12v or 110.

Is anyone planning on utilizing your Rivian in case of power outages? What have you purchased?

Not specific preparations for Hurricanes, but I have a Dometic, CFX3 75Dz that I have used on 4 separate occasions to save food from:

1-refrigerator compressor failure,
1-freezer compressor failure,
1-48 hour power outage
and the crazy Texas polar vortex a couple
years back that left us without power for a week. (used in conjunction with a Jackery 500 and a generator )

When not used for emergencies, it makes for a fantastic camping/beach solution for a weekender.

Just about paid for itself in food savings. Convenience and cool factor for road trips is just gravy.

Pricey for sure. But in retrospect, some of the best money I’ve spent in a while.

That same transfer switch could be used with a little propane/gasoline generator as well - so you could have some double coverage.

I had considered buying the same one to run a couple of circuits in the house during the crazy Texas storm we had a couple years back when power was out everywhere. Never got around to it though.

Though I did pick up the generator and some Jackeries for inside the house.

After going through Ian I found the battery worked extremely well keeping my chest freezer cold and recharging/powering wet vacs, phones etc. Still had 120 miles range after 1 week without power.

I hope you didn’t get any water inside your home. I was lucky that I didn’t lose power.

We were really lucky in that all we lost was a Jet Ski and some landscaping. House and garage were dry. Actually feel guilty when so many flooded.
