I am glad you started this thread. I had a frightening experience last month driving my R1T on a 3 Lane Highway. There were cement Jersey barriers set up, and the lanes were moved over to the left using cement Jersey barriers. I was in the Granny lane and my R1T was steered directly toward a Jersey barrier BY HWA…!!!!
I had to make an emergency turn of the steering wheel to the left, or else I would’ve hit a Jersey barrier directly, Head On…!!!!
My suggestion to all Rivian drivers, when using HWA, is to use extreme caution when abrupt changes of lanes are made to roads under construction…!!!

After reading all posts in this thread, I think I want to hold off on my R1S order for another year (or even longer). I use Autopilot/FSD 95% of my drive in Model Y and sounds like Driver + has a long way to go.

Another differentiator, Autopilot can be engaged anywhere.

Sorry to say, although FSD can be used virtually everywhere but it is not that much better IMO. I had some scary stories too.

Driver + is good on straight roads. Another big problem when when your going around a curve and there is an exit ramp. Either a left exit (left lane) or right exit (right lane) pretty much every time the truck takes the exit instead of keeping the turn. Something to be aware of.

Also, on roads where it's hard to see lane marking it can ping pong.

On anything but straight roads I use a middle lane. If there is no middle lane I just use ACC and leave auto steer off.

I'm about 25,000 miles in. My experience has D+ is great. I have all the LKA features on all the time, even on local roads. But D+ on freeways is so much better than anything else I've ever driven. It's not perfect and you are always supposed to stay alert. But on drives from Atlanta to Florida, for example, you are much less tired and far less stressed than you otherwise would be.

Does LKA work on all local roads? How is this different to D+/Highway assist?

It is a feature of Driver+. All it does is nudge you back in your lane. It does NOT auto steer.

LKA works on all roads with lines. It is a feature that is on most newer vehicles. It nudges you back, when you drift onto the lines.

D+ only works on roads that do NOT have stop signs/ traffic lights. Around Atlanta it's Interstate 85, 20, 75, 285 and GA-400 that I know of where D+ works.

There are more features to D+ that will eventually be turned on. But for now it steers within the lane you are in. I think the cutoff speed is 86 mph. If you cruise or drive above that it doesn't allow it. And of course paces so that you don't get too close to vehicle in front of you. You can also easily over-ride it(turn it off) at any moment by tapping the break or grabbing the steering wheel and turning it left or right.

*D+ can sometimes get confused around Atlanta where there is construction. When there are lane shifts and the old lines and new lines both exist-----that is an area where you have to be alert. D+ should automatically shut off in these situations, but I know of a few areas of 285 where it doesn't. But I've driven that stretch so many times I just go ahead and cut D+ off before I get to those spots.

You are mixing up Driver+ and Highway Assist. HA is part of the Driver+ suite, as is ACC, LDW, LKA, etc...

This is correct. I always think of Driver+ as the feature that only works on express ways. But godfodder is right, technically D+ is part of the overall suite of features.
