Apologies if this is a long-beaten topic--I couldn't find any previous discussions on it, but I may have missed something.

I've just acquired a Yakima RTT for my R1T (photos etc. forthcoming--once I get it installed). We'll be inaugurating it out at a friend's property when he heads out on his next hunting trip. I'm thinking some kind of heat in there will be nice--a heated blanket or mattress pad or maybe something else. Lots of web sites give advice on this sort of thing, but none of them allows for the flexibility that the R1's electrical system enables.

Does anyone have specific recommendations for something suitable? Since we have 110V AC available, maybe I'm overthinking this and any old electric blanket will suffice. But I figured it was worth asking the forum just in case there's some awesome option that I haven't thought of.

Many thanks!

Any old electric blanket will suffice or even a small resistive space heater. I have done both.

With a heated blanket and an additional comforter you will be toasty. If you are doing very cold I'd consider Yakima's insulation kit.

I've used insulation, electric blanket, and space heaters in my RTT. In terms of making the RTT more livable, I'd rank it by:

1. A good sleeping pad. Upgrading to an Exped with a high r value massively improved the cold weather warmth.
2. Heated blanket - very nice to have and easy to use. can't get too warm really.
3. Insulation - a paid to remove/add, but definitely helped keep it warm
4. electric space heater - REALLY effective, but would overheat the tent & turns off when knocked over (otherwise a fire hazard)

I've done 20s °F no problem with a simple electric blanket, iKamper with air mattress base and 1 inch foam topper. I've never felt cold from below and stay toasty on low with down blanket over top it.

The air may be chilly, but your body stays warm. Fight the temptation to seal up all the zippers and crack a few ensure airflow to keep humidity down.
