What am I doing wrong? If i set the truck to pre-heat from the app while Im indoors, the truck is blasting heat. I know it works. If i set the truck to anything below 80, on regular heat, the truck is essentially blowing cold air on me. Is this me or the truck?

When you say you set it below 80, it is cold air. Are you doing that from the app or inside the vehicle?

I have had a couple of random instances of it blowing cold air after it was heating normally. For example:
- Set heat to 72, drive the vehicle, heat is fine
- Stop at a Convenience store for a few minutes
- Get in the car and it is blowing cold air and continues to blow cold air after driving a few mins.

This happened last night. I'm trying to figure out a pattern and/or fix, so I did a simple thing - when this happened, I set the Climate System to OFF, waited a few seconds, and SET it back to ON using the touch screen. It then started blowing warm air. Sure seems like a bug.

I’ve experience the same recently… definitely seems software related. I normally use the Auto setting and I’ve found that turning that off and then back on seems to get it heating again.

Gen1 R1S facing same issue also and I do exactly what Zoid said earlier (turn it completely off and then back on a few mins later) and everything seems to heat up fine again....I had originally opened a service ticket thinking maybe I had a hardware issue but knowing that my heater generally works I cancelled my appt because I do feel this is a software issue....and hopefully Rivian fixes it soon.

It's not that the heat isn't hot. It's simply that you're likely the only one in your vehicle and it's only turning on the front zone. If it's particularly cold outside, and the entire rear volume of your vehicle is getting cold, you won't feel 'warm.' (But if you put your hands in front of the active vents, you'll notice there is warm air there).

I tested this multiple times and this seems to be the reality of the current logic within the software. I especially notice when my kiddo is in the backseat there's no issue, so I tested it 3x on my way into work this morning (72+ mile commute, so I toggled this 3x and repeated the situation).

Here's my recommendation:
Tap your HVAC controls and select your "Rear" zone if in R1T or "Middle" Zone if you're in an R1S.
Turn on a vent--make sure it's showing as orange/red (warm).

In about 5 minutes, as the rest of your cabin heats, you'll feel toasty warm.

My gen 2 issue is the heat never shuts down. Have thermostat set at 70. I get hot....check app and it says cabin temp is 78. Happens all the time. Left dog in the truck for 20 minutes with per mode on and was 80 degrees when I came back.

This has been happening to me in a 2023 R1S gen1. I think it is a bug with the A/B setting for the vents. I’ve noticed mine are not left the same from one drive to the next. A changing from B to A or the opposite seems to make it hear again, although the fans are also lower than expected.
This is quite noticeable when it’s -9 outside and after a while your feet are freezing. Definitely bugs.

I have been trying to have hot air in footwell only and Rivian refuses to this simple thing! It would automatically start the defrost and dash vents. I was driving our other can and it felt so nice to have proper heat in the footwell.

With all these reports, it seems pretty clear that the cabin HVAC control has some pretty serious issues. While certainly some of this is software, there could also be some hardware design shortcomings involved. After this amount of time, Rivian really should put some new, fresh eyes on this - if the current team is even working on it, they are not solving anything.

Started my drive in, started getting cold. Hit the HVAC screen, reached down and toggled to the rear zone and turned a vent on. Within about 5 minutes, it got toasty warm. Ideal? No. The problem is manageable, though.

Man, I was just thinking that my heat is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger this winter than it was last winter with software updates. I'm having to run my heat 2-4* lower than I normally do and the Auto setting runs a lot hotter especially on long road trips. Not complaining at all, think it's great.

That's certainly not always the case. My R1S sometimes randomly decides to blow cold air at me. Turning things on/off seems to fix the issues.

I've also had vents randomly stop responding until the HVAC is restarted.

Please Rivian, focus on fixing these software bugs...

I've found that the threshold for cold air/warm air has been lowered in my opinion. It used to be that anything below 74* Auto would blow colder air, now I feel like that's moved to 70*.

It was about 19F this morning. G1 R1S sitting in garage. Used the phone to warm it up to about 70F. Took about 10 minutes-could have been less. Drove to work ll warm and toasty. The car has been great so far.
