Someone else already noted - but this should not be the case. We have two cars with HUDs; the wife's Mini uses an old-school additional display that shows the HUD (and retracts down when HUD is disabled / when the car is turned off). My Kia EV6 projects the image onto the windshield - there's a projector embedded in front of the driver console. Will make for some (more) expensive window screen replacements!
This is definitely an issue... I ended up just using my transition glasses most of the time, those have no issue with HUDs - but when using my full polarized sunglasses, I find that increasing the brightness definitely helpsAs another poster here has said, I drive with polarized sunglasses and can barely read a HUD because of it so it has little use to me. Then again I don't bitch about the driver assist either so IDK.
For other Kia owners (or if you rent a Kia with one) - the HUD can be displayed in either classic or "AR" mode - I personally find the AR mode less cluttery, and in that mode, at least on the EV6, it just shows the proximity alert when someone's approaching from your blind spot, not where all the cars are around you (you can display that in the driver dash though). It also only does that on highways with driver assist turned on anyway.Actually here is one from the web.
I didn’t believe it until I saw it. Big leaps in the past few years.Holy crap, that’s,pretty cool. My references are Navy fighters, airliners and my ZO6. This is WAY more info than I ever would have imagined. I stand corrected
Ewww.... [cringing!]Actually here is one from the web.

It does not block the horizon line. And you can move it around.Ewww.... [cringing!]
I think I would hate that implementation even if the view through the windshield weren't blurry.
Please don't put ANYTHING where it even partially blocks the horizon line directly in front of me. Scary!
I'd go as far as saying the "heads up" position is less important compared to having the focal point set to minimize visual accommodation when already watching the road, which is HUGE for eye relief and reaction time. That said, I don't feel a HUD critical given that Rivian already has a very good (and relatively large) driver display, I can quickly see what's going on peripherally without focusing on it.HUDs were designed to reduce focal-length changes
…on top of that, the interior configuration for 2025 is likely frozen, materials purchased and production tooling set. Earliest it might be integrated would be ‘26. I’d rather have a Bentley-style analog clock, instead of the apparitions that appear on my driver’s screen as traffic! HahaI doubt we will see it. HUD seems to be a love it or hate it thing and right now Rivian is trying to control costs. I don’t see them adding something that increases cost unless it has mass appeal.
my Silverado EV has a HUD. I haven’t decided if I like it or hate it yet.
I currently drive a BMW iX M60 and the HUD is fantastic: highly customizable, very unobtrusive and, in my opinion, a safety enhancer. I recently test drove a R1S Tri, and one of my very first comments to my son who was with me was that I hope they introduce a HUD. In my experience, once one becomes accustomed to using a HUD, it is very disconcerting to drive without it.Went to Hawaii in November and rented a BMW M series coupe and it had the HUD. Super nice and informative with lane change assistance arrows and some more advanced HUD type things. I would absolutely love to have something similar. It came in super handy when navigating roads that we had never been on before.
Yep, kinda agree with your comments..much like fighters and airliners…get used to them, then you hate when their goneI currently drive a BMW iX M60 and the HUD is fantastic: highly customizable, very unobtrusive and, in my opinion, a safety enhancer. That said, it certainly is not a deal-breaker when it comes to vehicle choice, merely a value-added proposition.
Oops!Modern HUDs do NOT show vehicles around you! Your eyes do that..don’t know who told you that..they did you a disservice..
