I want to paint all the lower bumper trims and side skirts to match the cars paint. Has anyone painted the black mouldings yet? I did a forum search and came up with nothing.

Thanks.

I did it on my Ford Expedition about 20 years ago! Keep in mind, due to the rougher surface of the plastic pieces, even painted the same color, will look more like a matte finish than gloss finish, so won't match the body panels perfectly.

Be sure whoever you have do it knows how to properly prep the plastic before painting, otherwise the paint will chip off very easily.

Will look forward to seeing photos of someone getting it done.

You can also have the body shop use a filler primer and then your trim will have the same smooth glossy finish of the aluminum panels instead of the somewhat grained and duller look that results from simply painting those trim pieces.

I did it on a 2011 Traverse LTZ and it looked great when fresh but didn’t wear well on the rocker panels. Road debris really dulled the finish. You would want to ppf it if you do it.

Agree with above, primer it first and PPF after might help. It gets pretty thrashed. Mine is fairly weathered after 6 months.

Another way I’ve seen people do to their mirrors that have that texture is to sand them smooth. Then primer and paint them. Lots of ram ppl have done this with good results.

I'd investigate if it can be wrapped before I would paint it.

I wrapped the front silver skid plate piano black and love it. Silver stands out, black blends in better.

There's also the DIY vinyl option. BRAINEXPLODERMERCH has already developed a kit for both the front and rear silver skid plates/bumper:

Front skid plate kit for the R1T and R1S: https://www.brainexplodermerch.com/product-page/front-bumper-silver-chrome-delete-rivian-r1t-r1s

Rear skid plate/bumper for the R1T: https://www.brainexplodermerch.com/product-page/rear-bumper-silver-chrome-delete-rivian-r1t

Personally, I'm going to have the wrap shop take care of both of those, as well as the R1S upper silver trim, once I take delivery in a couple of days.

you don't want to color code those black trims... that's so 80's.
but how about gloss black? That's certainly a current trend on SUVs these days.. from Toyota Rav4 to Land Rover Defenders. They tend to offer this on higher trims. I thought about doing the same on my R1S... filler primer and sand the heck out of them. I did once...back in early 90, color coded of course :p

surprise no one has done it. will wraping them have same effect? WIll it hide the texture well? will it stick well and stay on as well? any pictures out there?
