Has anyone had their adaptive lights fail? Gen 2 R1s

I had my car for a whole 3 hours and the adaptive lights failed. Has anyone seen this issue? If so what does your work order say the remedy was?

2025 gen2 R1S, 50 miles.

I'm sorry this happened. Call Rivian and tell them this is a safety issue and have them get you into the service center immediately. A non working headlight does technically make the car undriveable at night.

Goes to prove that I still think they sell cars after they roll off the line, with minimal QC.

Yeah, I was driving at night with my kids and they both failed (the lights) eventually. I used some magnetic work flood lights and the Rivian door flashlight to eeek myself home. I live in the middle of nowhere. No chance of Uber or a Tow.

This was a horrible way to start off with a new brand. Getty angry isn't my thing, but man I was stewing all night and couldn't sleep. Mostly thinking an Ineos Grenadier (a ridiculous and weirdly awesome eco-piggish truck) would have been a better replacement for my LR4. We really like EVs too our MachE is great, but I need something that can tow. Wife said no more ICE autos. So R1S was the only choice to replace the LR4.



I dropped it off this morning, after leaving my warehouse. I did tell them I wanted an EV not an enterprise rental car. I got a quad Gen1 R1T. which is just meh. At least I have my drive cam footage of me driving home using makeshift headlamps. I'll always have that memory I guess.

Much less exciting than having to tape a flashlight to the hood.

Same exact problem. Drivers side headlight stopped working. Sometimes it will work after hard reset, most of the times not. Randomly will start working again.

Found another guy on Reddit same issue after last update. Been talking to Rivian for about a week now - they can't get me in for an appointment, or get me any answers. Absolutely crazy for a headlight out. Very frustrating. Obviously a problem across multiple vehicles.

Probably nothing else because that product really doesn't exist yet. So fair point. That's the rub right? There really aren't very many mid-sized pickups out there (none other than the R1T).



For comparison, the lighting is much smoother, quieter, luxurious, and more comfortable, also, it's a better truck for people who truck stuff around regularly. However, the Screen (just like my mach-E) isn't nearly as good as the RIVIAN (not even close). The tech isn't as good either. R1T is streets ahead in software and tech.


The lightning breaks no barriers and is unsurprisingly just a really nice FORD truck that happens to be shoehorned into being electric. The R1t is very cool. I can say the quad Gen1 is fast. Corners extremely well and is significantly more fun than a lightning. But, as a truck guy I'd go with the lightning 100% of the time. But to be clear the Ford Lightning is Meh as well but full size and mid-sized truck for purpose don't compare well.


If the R1t and Lightning weren't 90k neither would be meh. The value per 'meh' isn't quite there yet.

To be fair I was holding the flashlight. I had my two shop floods magnetized to the roof. That was Extremely meh. My kids learned some new words..and I have to answer to their mother now. IN my defense I believe I should get a pass.
