Crickets from Rivian on this, wanted to get a sense of whether production has started and these are being rolled out slowly, or if they are completely vaporware for the time being...

Got my R1T early August.

Still waiting to hear from the SC.

Did you try the chat? I wonder if they can provide some timeframe.

I'd certainly like to have mine before snow arrives.

They apparently exist, but my guess is that they are still in short supply.

My R1T was configured with the PTC but due to parts shortages, it was not on the vehicle when I took delivery in June. About six weeks ago, Rivian notified me that the parts were available and I added the PTC installation to my existing service appointment.

That appointment is not until the end of November however, and my worry is that, given the length of time involved, the parts won't be there next month when I bring my R1T in for the work. In addition, I also changed the location of the service appointment to a newly opened location only about 70 miles from home, half the distance of the SC I was previously booked at.

I'm hoping for the best, but will not be surprised to find out that parts were already used on another vehicle. I just hope they call to tell me if that's really the case before I drive to the SC 25 November, the date of my appointment.

I took possession in early May
Sometime around August I was contacted with a date to install the tonneau in Sept that I was unable to take
We discussed options and came up with Oct 22.... today

I was confused by the advance email I got with a car rental voucher
The appointment was specific - 8:00-8:30

I spoke to multiple people; I clearly did not understand and no one explicitly stated it
You are dropping your vehicle off with no date of completion

Turns out I didn't need to get up at 4:30 to be there before 0800
I was so exhausted it took me the better part of the day (and a nap) to realize no one told me when to come back

This seems like a simple message to convey
I might not have liked the message, but I could have arranged or changed
I just opened the rental voucher and it is only for a week

I assume most folks work for a living and it isn't that easy to keep going back and forth for something as ambiguous as this process

I'm exhausted - don't have my vehicle and firmly believe that the rental has to be returned in a week.

Now I have to figure out more time off, and I still don't know if the job will be finished...

They called to cancel/reschedule my install about a week before my service appointment for other things, wiring harness needed is AWOL. Whether that's due to a change or general supplier issue they couldn't say. They didn't seem hopeful that it was going to happen this year.

Got mine installed a week ago in San Jose. It took overnight. I received my truck in June ‘24. One disappointment was that bed side rail covers were not fully seated. A few fist bumps fixed that.

FWIW my R1T was delivered from the Shop on 9/29 and the PTC was installed at the factory. I didn’t expect it at all but was pleasantly surprised.

I purchased a used Gen1 Quad in July with a broken PTC and was replaced in late August by the SC with (allegedly) a improved unit

6/29 delivery, not a peep from Rivian. When I picked up my spare tire a couple weeks ago I asked about a timeline and they said maybe by the end of the year. Not really holding my breath though.

I have an appointment on 12/30 for some NVH and other small problems, so maybe they'll just do it all in one visit, though I'd like to have the PTC before then.

This describes the bad dream that I've been having about my service appointment.

I've queried Rivian service several times about the time required to install the PTC. The answer has always been that it takes 4-plus hours and that they expect to complete the work that day. When I point out that there are also several other items on the work order, ranging from panel alignments to high parasitic drain, and ask again about the time required, I'm told that they expect to get things done that day.

Color me skeptical.

There is an excellent video online about installing the PTC, one in which Rivian actually allowed JerryRig to film the techs doing the work, of which there is a lot. All of the rear seat needs to be removed, and all three panels in the bed also come out. That's just for starters, to get the needed access to actually install the cassette and route the wiring. It seems to me to be highly unlikely that all the work can be completed in only four hours. Add in the other items, and it seems even less likely that everything can get done in one day.

It would be good to hear from folks who've had the PTC installed, what the time required by the SC actually was. The small sample I've seen seems to indicate that most wind up having to leave the truck, which in turn seems to indicate that the work takes just a bit more time than four or so hours.

I already need to take a full day off for the service appointment, of which about three hours is travel time. That's actually a great improvement: the service center Rivian initially wanted me to use is three-plus hours each way. And while I'm hoping that if the truck needs to stay overnight (or longer), Rivian will give me a loaner, if that's not the case, I can at least take regional rail back to my house.

My biggest fear however, is that the parts for the PTC will not actually be there on the day of my appointment. Rivian contacted me nearly two months ago to say that the PTC parts were available. For various reasons, the earlierst I could get an appoitment at the SC was 25 November. I have no idea how Rivian dispositions allocated parts, but I'm more than a bit aprehensive that a complete set of PTC parts wll sit around somewhere, untouched for four months.

So fingers crossed, but as I said, color me skeptical.

I think you’re overreacting a bit. Rivian has been great about providing rental vehicles during service. There’s always an end date on the rental contract but one call will have them extended for a week or two. They kept my R1S for six weeks.

Just make sure you confirm that all the work has been completed before you schedule a pick up date.
