I am still baffled by that number TBH. I posted what I was getting with my topper at 80 mph and it wasn't that much worse than your daily number. I am pretty sure the topper isn't doing me any favors with respect to efficiency, especially around town with a few more hundred pounds to carry.

I am going on pretty long road trip today and I'lll be going pretty far north and will have some longer distance efficiency numbers with the topper to report. I hope traffic isn't as bad as it can be sometimes.

As always, I am not hyper focused on efficiency but just reporting to help others. So far still loving the tires. Now, if you start getting 20-25% better than you were with the GY's, I might have to consider the Michelins when I finally wear these out.

It is sad to say that I am dropping out of this tires for my R1s. At 3k miles and I got a dreadful 2.03 mkw on all purpose setting in this nice weather. I can't imagine what it would be during the winter time. Since my son 's silverado needs some new tires, I decided to give this set to him and bought the michelin defender LTX M/2 in the same size 275/60/20. I will give a report on the new set soon. Thanks to @DayTripping and @B Digs for lots of info and testing on this tires. I do believed that there is something wrong with my set itself since the numbers doesn't add up like others. However, no way I can prove this.
I was looking into Costco to get the michelin defender LTX M/2 in the same size 275/65/20 .. I was unable to find them.. However I can see 275/60/20 in stock, is that what everyone is using as far as Michelin?

I am coming from 21" on both of my Rivians. So, I went with 275/60/20 to keep it as the same 33" overall diameter. I got mine from Discount tires.

In the interest of helping everyone else, I am posting what I wrote to Lance in a DM and removing anything that might be personal and clarifying some Dallas shorthand.

"Not exactly the best conditions to run. Winds were 17 gusting to 31 mph. I started the trip computer when I entered at Hillcrest (to follow the same route as LL75 635 Exrpess lanes which have TOU pricing) and got up to 70 mph according to the GPS. FYI - I took one for the team today, the toll was $7.15!

Anyway, there was a ton of buffeting with the winds even in the express lane. I went for 7.4 miles and was getting 2.34 mpk.

Here is what Electrafi said for the entire run.

I started out using the 635 express lane again but they they pushed us out for roadwork. So, I ended up coming back down DNT (Dallas North Tollway) with that crosswind now a headwind right on my nose 21+ gusting into the mid 30 mph range. At least it was only $4.20 for the 2 miles I got to drive it. I was at 2.05 mpk for the return with the winds just pounding the truck.

Below is a shot of what I was getting on DNT with the headwinds right on the nose.

All runs were in AP at standard ride height. I think that is what you usually run. I didn't have any AC on but did run the fan.

So after 16% battery usage and $11+ in tolls, you (everyone) should have some reference info that should be directly comparable to LL75's run yesterday.

Rivian Goodyear Territory AT 275/60/20 Factory AT tires + saving $ {filename}

I didn't do this exhaustive of testing with my factory 21's so I don't really know how it would compare. The efficiency was so much worse that my Teslas I don't think 2.3 or 2.5 mpk would have been material to me. When my 3 is over 4 mpk and my Plaid is mid 3's and I drive them so much faster than my Rivian.

I do know that my overall MPK is better now with my GY's than they were with the 21 Pirellis by a few percent and I drove my GY's in the coldest weather and most miles since I've owned the truck since late Sept. I swapped out for the GY's in the first week of Jan just before we got the coldest weather."

Hope this helps everyone else. The 635 express lanes are a bit subterranean at first but I could still feel the winds down below and then toward the end of my run, I came up and got the full force of the crosswind.

So for reference, LL75 was at 2.18 and I was at 2.34 on the same section of road and his winds were pretty calm yesterday and I had very strong crosswinds the entire way.
Hey what is your electrafi referral code?

Let us know your efficiency once those break in. I'm curious if there's underlying issues dragging your numbers down.

I had a pretty long run down a tollway today. It was about 74F, and the crosswind was 10-14 mph the entire way. I had about a 400-pound payload in the truck, too. The topper is about 200 pounds on its own.

I was in Conserve mode low and, according to the GPS, was driving between 70-71mph. Once again, the crazy TC reads a lower average speed. No AC or heat, I did have the fan on and the seat fan going as well.

For reference, a friend of mine with his Gen 1, dual large, with the 21" aero wheels typically gets 2.6 mpk at 70 indicated. Which is a bit slower than a true 70 mph. So I am not far off of what he gets with the pretty efficient 21's and he has a tonneau cover too.

Adding a quick edit to put something in context.

At about a ~2.5 mpk efficiency, that would put my range at ~325 miles with my large pack. Let's suppose I am somehow off and it is actually 2.4, that still gives me over 300 miles of range at 70 mph. That is pretty solid.

These tires, on the R1T are rated for 258 miles with the standard pack of 92.5 kWh. Which is about 2.78 mpk. I doubt in the real world a 2025 R1T dual motor std. pack would get that at 70 mph. So overall, I really have no complaints about the efficiency even toting the topper around.

Drove 50 miles yesterday with mixture of highway and inside road. 2.23 kwh. I don't think I ever get that number with the GY even after breaking in. We are taking both the Rivians to Norman Ok tomorrow for graduation weekend which is about 190 miles one way from Dallas. Will report back and compared the two. My dual R1t still have the OEM 21".

Just had these installed at my local SC as part of swapping out my 21s for AS 20s. So far, with about 450 miles on them, I'm getting just over 2.5mpk.

Question on inflation. There's posts in this thread that the starting cold inflation is 48psi. The SC delivered these with about 42psi. The sidewall indicates max inflation of 51psi (IIRC). At a cold inflation of 48psi I'm easily at 50/51 on the highway with temps only in the 60s. Am I on the right track here or should I back down my cold inflation?

I thought I'd post another update since I put on the topper I purchased as part of a group buy. I am basically posting the same info in the thread regarding what I put there since some people might not be viewing that thread and a lot of the content there is relevant here. Again I am not focused on efficiency with these tires but they have been pretty good. I'd think with my topper on, I'd be pretty close to an R1S but a bit longer and likely quite as aerodynamic. Still love the tires and they are quiet on the highway, ride great, grip well and not issue even running up to the speed limiter.

Here, most of the info from that other post. For reference I have a Gen 1 quad with the large pack.
___________________________________________

Just thought I'd throw this out here. It is my efficiency with various tires and configurations as tracked by Electrafi.

The first tires are the factory 21" Pirellis. The tires for the next 3 are the Goodyear Territory ATs 275/60/20 which I put on just before the coldest weather an snow hit in very early January but with the tire setting for the Rivian using the same as the 21" Pirellis as they were fairly close in size.

The next set of numbers is with the correct config for the tires in the Rivian. Lastly it is with that same config and the topper on the truck.

As a side note, the Pirellis were well broken in and had about 8k miles on them. The Goodyears were brand new and took about 1,000-1,500 miles to really break in.

Rivian Goodyear Territory AT 275/60/20 Factory AT tires + saving $ {filename}

For those who want the results in MPK, here it is,

Pirelli - 2.38 mpk
Territory AT - 2.28
AT correct config - 2.45
AT w/topper - 2.59

Some things to note is that I ran the heat a lot when I first put on the GY's. When I could set the correct config, there was not much heat or AC. Now with the topper on, it has been hot enough to run the AC a fair amount. I pretty much ran AC all day. I also used Conserve mode a lot today as well but had some pretty strong winds the last few days with the topper on.

Based on that, it looks like the topper might be helping the efficiency. It is too early to draw that conclusion. I do drive a lot of the same routes with similar conditions. If I had to make an early read on any efficiency impact, it clearly isn't killing my range. That alone is a big win as far as I'm concerned.

I guess one of the best things I can say about it is I almost never know it is there while driving the truck. If anything, I think it balances out the truck better with a little more weight in the rear when I am using the lowest suspension mode.

My only real question is long-term durability. I’ve got 47,750 miles on my Cooper Discoverer 3 XLT ATs and still have at least 5,000 left. If these new GY don’t deliver a solid 40K, the improved MPK won’t be worth it for my wife’s R1S when it’s time to swap tires this fall.

It all comes down to what your priorities are. There is no free lunch when it comes to tread life vs traction. You normally give up one for the benefit of the other. There are a bunch of competing priorities that we have determine what are the most important to us and choose accordingly.

I've had some tires last a long time that I could wait for them to die because other than longevity, they pretty much sucked. At the same time, there are some tires on my motorcycles that won't last more than 2k miles but I buy them again and again.

I am not hyper focused on efficiency and don't care overly much about longevity. If I get 25k miles, I'll call it a win. I can afford the truck. I can afford the tires.

If these tires die in about 25k miles, I might seriously look at the Pilot Sport 5S if they are available in a size for my truck. I doubt I'd get over 15k miles out of them.

I had a chance to do some faster running today. I had the Comma set at 80 mph (speedo 82) (same as GPS).

I was in Conserve mode on the highway and AP until I got to the highway. I had bursts over 85 at times and a max of 99.

Winds were on the nose 11 mph gusting to 23 and on the return they were a 10-20 mph tailwind. Ambient temps were low 70's and I had no AC on and I had the fan and heated seats. First run I was pretty much unladen (other than the tools and badlands jack I carry in the truck which is probably a few hundred pounds), and on the return I had a few hundred pounds in the bed of stuff I bought.

I'll save you from doing the math; the average is about 2.1 mpk. Most of the time, the speedo in the truck was around 82 or better. There were a few acceleration pulls up to the ton on both runs. I was trying to figure out where Comma would actually disengage. My efficiency probably would have been noticeably better without those pulls.

I am pretty surprised how good the run into the headwind was. It was generally uphill as well. My airspeed would have been between 90-100mph for most of the run. That still would have been an almost 240 mile range. My return could have been better as in all fairness. I was driving faster in general than the first run. My averaged efficiency still would have give me over 270 miles of range at 80+ mph.

I have no idea how these numbers compare to my previous Pirelli 21's as I didn't car and never really tracked it. I've only done tracked this for anyone interested in these tires as it almost seems the first question anyone asks (after cost anyway) is how efficient are they?

If anyone has efficiency data at 80+ mph for the 21" Pirellis, I'd love to see it for comparison. I am absolutely certain the topper isn't killing my range at this point. It is now the second best thing I purchased for my truck after the Comma.

FYI, I think I've gotten a handle on the wind noise. It isn't perfect, but it is markedly improved. With the next shop appointment, they can take care of something I can't and I should be in very good shape.
