Installed mine yesterday solo. Some tips from my install experience

1) Same issue as others have described with some shipping damage. The passenger side package had the rock slider come partially through the box. Luckily no significant damage seen.

2) I did the install solo. Recommend getting a buddy to help as I think it would have made this process MUCH easier. The rock sliders are heavy and holding them up while placing bolts was challenging.

3) Make sure you clean out the bolt spaces. I cleaned with a pipe cleaner and hten used PB blaster in each.

4) I started with the passenger side and did not use power tools. Use power tools. I switched over and it made life so much easier. Battery powered impact tool made life so much easier.

5) Be careful not to strip the T55 bolts. I partially did this with the first bolt. Don't get a cheap T55 bit, I think this was my problem. Initially bought mine on amazon, switched out to a bit I bought at lowes and was luckily able to salvage the bolt and remove it.

6) A dremel works really well for cutting out the plastic and makes quick work of it.

I think one of the things that would make life a lot easier is a template for the cut outs. I measured everything out and unfortunately after putting back on the plastic covers had to add a 1/2" of clearance to 3 out of the 5 cut outs with a dremel from under the car. Would have been even more challenging if I were to need to use a utility knife.

Overall, the build quality is excellent and really happy with the product itself.

Installed mine yesterday too. And yes, a 2nd set of hands would have helped.
It's actually a TP55 and the cheap one I bought on Amazon worked fine

It is sad that they're still shipping with such reckelss abandon. I may have changed my decision to purchase if I'd known I'd get a damaged product.

Agreed, the build quality seems pretty good, although I'm not sure how the damaged area will hold up over time w.r.t. rust.

My R1T sliders showed up this week, actually sent as two separate shipments and both the sliders were well packaged and protected. For anyone who's installed on R1T I'm assuming the cuts in the plastic panels will be in all three of them not just the two that are indicated in the R1S install video?

These sliders look like a good mix of value/protection. Like many I have looked at the other options but the quick availability and price of these may win me over.

Can anyone comment on the socket needed to remove the original bolts? I've seen T55 and TP55 mentioned in the thread.

Also what socket is required to install the hardware that comes with these sliders? They don't seem like a Torx head.

Got off the fence and finally ordered the GOAT sliders. Now looking to see what tools I need to gather as I wait for their arrival. So far...
  • A good TP55 bit (none included right?), 1/2" drive for impact wrench
  • Pipe cleaner (might use a brass gun barrel brush attached to a power drill instead)
  • PB Blaster or WD40 to clean threads?
  • Have a Dremel kit and torque wrench already
Anything else?

Definitively, TP55. If you use T55 you run high risk of stripping.

A cutoff tool works faster than the Dremel

Jackstands or a pair of extra hands goes a long way.

Compressed air to clean out the threads

Measure twice and cut once!
