I don't have access to that system, and everyone else has gone home for the day already. Give us a call tomorrow ((406) 303-5181) or email [email protected] any time.
Just a heads up GFC team
I called to ask about where I am in the queue and left a message, about 5 minutes later received a callback that was just me, the call was playing the VM I just left.

Something tells me that isn't the desired function of you automated phone system

Or: we designed our phone system just to drive customers crazy.

I wasn’t looking for a camper/topper until I found GFC and got a reservation for a topper. The production prototype of the camper looks awesome!

I read the whole thread, apologies in advance if the questions below were already answered.
  • Is the topper roof height?
  • I believe it was mentioned that the camper and topper are two different products, does it mean that a topper cannot be upgraded to a camper later on? or can it?
  • What was the solution for the spoiler?
Any updated pictures of the topper would be great

Thanks!

According to their web site, they are on vacation until 9/3. I am also interested in the response to your questions, but it might be next week.

No vacation for me, still trying to defeat the bike lock Graeme put around my leg and the desk....

We don't have final specs on topper yet. We've just been full steam ahead on camper since deciding to really dive into making it such a unique product for the R1T. But obviously solving all the problems around camper makes topper development easier.

Let's look at each of these questions:

- Roof height: normally the topper is ~1 inch taller than the cab height of the trucks its designed for. This allows you to clear the cab when carrying boards/canoes/construction materials and using our Beef Rack crossbars, which add 2.5 inches of additional height.

What would be ideal height for you and your use cases?

- Camper and topper look similar but are actually quite different in the details. Topper is just a bed cap, but one that, unlike other bed caps, is actually engineered to support weight in dynamic off-road environments, won't fall apart, and has unique features like the translucent roof, load halo, cabana mode, etc etc.

- Spoiler solution: still in development. Adding the fairing to the camper solved it for that product. For topper, it'll depend on how the aero works out without the cabover. May be just like a layer of PPF to block off the holes (based on my background as a writer and college dropout) or something more clever (based on our product designer/my little brother's background as a Stanford mechanical engineer). Will need to get a prototype on our truck and go from there.

As an aside here, the GFC Topper is a really unique, incredible product that hasn't gotten the attention the camper has for obvious reasons. It offers SOOOOOO much more functionality than other bed caps, and I really don't think there will be a measurable reduction to range. It's definitely the product I'd get if I owned an R1T.

Thanks for the quick response!

I use my R1T primarily for overlanding/offroad. A major limitation that we have today is the ~16” headroon under the bed cover. My Tetris skills came very handy. I think that the headroom with the topper should be at least crouching height ~36”. However, the key words are no measurable impact to range, at least not until the charging infrastracture is seriously improved. In my last trip I hit a supercharger where all 8 charges were out of service.

It seems to me that the key is in redirecting the downward air pressure from the spoiler over the top of the topper. You did it once!, I am sure something brilliant will come through.

Wishlist
  1. It will be nice if the Beef Rack could align with the top Rivian rack (or have some other rack option) for really long things
  2. A dream would be to have the option to have the option to upgrade to the Camper, even with some constrains (i.e. no push button from the inside)
I am very excited for the Topper, looking forward to seeing the design!

Yeah, aero is just a matter of CAD plus testing. Should be straightforward.

There is no possibility of upgrading topper to camper unfortunately. Even though they share some visual similarities, their geometry is quite different.

In traditional body on frame trucks, you can't actually strap stuff to both a cab and bed mounted rack, there's too much flex. Obviously unibody is different, but designing an interface with third party accessories of who knows what origin kinda ends up being a fools errand. You can carry items of any length on just the topper with cross bars, plus raft straps. I carry a 19 foot canoe on mine for instance.

If you buy the camper, can you remove the tent and just use the topper, potentially reducing the impact to range?

Sorry you are not enjoying the shutdown like everyone else! :CWL:

Forgot to answer this: The camper and topper both double secure storage volume in the R1T's bed. I don't have the truck here to measure (it's at Goose Gear in CO), but the top sits at roughly cab height. And, since you can still use your tonneau cover, you get two levels of storage and extra security.

A friend drove out from Massachusetts last weekend to get a camper put on his Super Duty, and we had this exact same conversation. He's on a fishing road trip through the rockies now, and even in his 6'10" bed was just packed completely full to the tonneau. When we threw his stuff back in the bed after the GFC was installed, it was maybe 1/4 full. His first comment was like, "It's huge!"

Working on something!
Any chance it's something like this Canyon Adventure Vans GLSS?! https://canyonadventurevans.com/pro...rage-system-set-for-storyteller-overland-mode

I have a Storyteller van with an older GLSS model in it and it was an absolute game changer for how we use our van. Since ordering a GFC for my 24' GMC AT4X AEV (I wanted one for my R1T as well, but not sure I'd get the use of it like I will on the GMC) I've been trying to think how to come up with similar solution. I saw that Goose Gear makes similar type of storage seats, but nothing that would work quite right in my truck. Something like a GLSS offering from GFC would be amazing...

The problem we're trying to solve for you right now is delivering a versatile bed cap/camper hybrid that can form a canvas for your own customization or bed build outs, should you want them. There's plenty of aftermarket brands that make all sorts of storage and furniture options. Some good ones are Decked, Goose Gear, Dometic, etc etc. Anything that works with your truck bed works with a GFC. If you go to the GFC forum you'll find thousands of examples.

Lemme grab you a link: https://forum.gofastcampers.com/t/what-have-you-done-to-your-gfc-this-week/10822
