Mike Johns ordered a Waymo, the self-driving rideshare service from Google, but found himself in a malfunctioning car driving in a never-ending loop around the parking lot he was in.

I have to admit, that’s a pretty clever headline for the “news” segment.

Thankfully it wasn't anything serious but that is funny. I've been in those a few times when I'm out in Phoenix and thankfully each time was uneventful.

Either the passenger is overstating this or Waymo is downplaying it but their statements are in direct conflict. Probably truth as usual is somewhere in the middle. Must have been a slow news day as I’ve lost more time than this at a very busy intersection with the traffic light out.

Passenger - It was horrible, the car kept circling the parking lot, I almost missed my flight.

Waymo - The total delay was less than 5 minutes, we did not charge for the ride.

Both of those statements could be true. It circled the parking lot for less than 5 min; the passenger got out and had to wait for an alternate form of transport, which took much longer and made the passenger almost miss his flight.

My understanding from the news reports I saw here in SoCal is they fixed the glitch and the ride was completed with a delay less than 5 minutes.

I will admit news stories these days are incredibly unreliable so he may have had to switch rides but not what was reported in the reports I saw.

Worse part about the reporting, most reports leave out that the ride was completed because it minimizes the impact of the report.

That's gross. Reading that article paints it as a minor inconvenience not a major issue.
