If I win, can i get an IOU for a Scout Terra?
Unfortunately I'm afraid not. If you read the prize details, the winner must choose a BEV that is on the US market and can be delivered by June 2025. Our fiscal year ends June 30 and we need to close out the raffle within the year, which means paying the prizes and taxes.

I suppose you could choose something else, sell it immediately and hold onto the proceeds until the Terra is available...

Well... f-it... I'm donating to the cause knowing that it's impossible (the universe told me that already) I win anything :)

Short story, I grew up in a remote part of Argentina (the southernmost city in the world) and every year there was a Cross-country ski race in that I always took part (I grew up skiing professionally). There were normally 300-400 participants and about 500 prizes for every event ranging from BIG to a candy. I have never ever won a single thing in the ˜15-18 times I've taken part of this event :)

Our goal with the raffle and grand prize from the beginning has been to increase awareness of climate and EVs, and put an additional EV on the road. We pay the taxes on the car to eliminate a big obstacle to doing so. It's not so exciting to win a car if you have to pay a big tax bill to receive the prize. But it's not cheap - on a $120K car we will end up paying an additional $60K in fees and taxes, because any taxes we pay on the winner's behalf are also subject to taxes...
I've mentioned this on the Tesla forum in response to a previous year's raffle from CXC, but AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) ran an article in their magazine at one point where they tracked down the owners of their aircraft giveaways to see where they were at that point. AOPA and EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) both give away either a new or professionally restored aircraft to a club member. These prizes can be worth $100k to $500k. VERY FEW of the winners have the cash to pay such a substantial tax bill and are uncomfortable to take out a loan to pay for the taxes. This means the winner will generally have to sell the aircraft immediately to be able to pay for the tax bill. They still come out ahead by the sale price minus the tax bill, but they don't have an aircraft.

It's wonderful that CXC covers the taxes on the grand prize to avoid similar situations. I've been in for a single ticket several years now.

Thank you for pointing that out. I've heard that when someone wins a car in most raffles, they wind up selling it to pay the taxes and keep the remainder. Those raffles not only don't pay the taxes, often they get the car for free, donated by a local dealer!

We never got a dime from Tesla or Rivian, though a Tesla exec (long since gone) once agreed to let us transfer a couple of Day 1 Model 3 reservations to use as prizes, and two years ago a Rivian exec agreed to accelerate delivery of an R1 if our winner chose it. They even sent him some Rivian swag - a hat and water bottle - but he and his daughter (to whom he gave the car) chose a Model X after test driving R1T and R1S and deciding they were too big for city living.

Thank you and good luck - you deserve it after all of those near-misses!

I'd like to visit Argentina some time...

The raffle ended yesterday - not quite a sell out, but we got up to 4672 out of 5000 tickets sold. Thanks to all who participated!

Live stream of the drawing will take place tomorrow, Friday 2/28 at 3pm Eastern. We will go live from 2pm to show the process of loading the drum, interspersed with some videos about our programs.

Our Grand Prize Winner, Dan Nelson of New Hampshire, picked up his dream EV a few hours ago on a windy day in Chelsea, Massachusetts. And the EV he picked was... a Rivian!

A 2025 R1T Tri-Max in Storm Blue with Slate Sky interior, crossbars, ski and kayak racks, awning, Rivian charger and a few other accessories. He has participated in the Climate XChange raffle for several years. This year he bought a ticket in November and the winning ticket in early February. He is very happy.

After 8 years of giving away Teslas, I'm very pleased to have given away a Rivian today. Let's make in two in a row next year!

Thanks to all who participated. Go to carbonraffle.org and sign up if you want to be notified when our next raffle starts, likely some time in the fall.

No, the impact driver was just in case he wanted it to stay on for the drive home….

Of course, it was to install the front license plate bracket - which is a lot slimmer than the one on my 2023 R1S. I asked if they could swap mine but it’s a new design that only fits Gen 2

Seriously, I’m amazed the bow stayed on for all our photos! It was really windy today, and the Rivian Service Center in Chelsea is just a couple hundred yards from the harbor so the wind blows right through.

It’s a $12.99 bow from Amazon that comes rolled up. You pull on a couple smaller ribbons and it comes together in a bow, then you tie the little ribbons, attach suction cups and double-sided tape, and set it on the car. They even include a couple mini versions to practice with first, and a QR code to an instruction video. It actually looked pretty good when the wind wasn’t whipping it around.
