Also one feature I miss from my Tesla key fob was the ability to open the charge port door (when holding down trunk button for 1-2 secs). Would be nice for them to add this feature.
ANY option to open the charge port other than what's currently available would be welcome.

Right now, if my vehicle is in the garage (unlocked but sleeping), the only ways to open it is to open the door briefly and then hit the part near the port door to have it open; or open it from within the car's interface. Same goes for closing it - vehicle will be done charging, I can remove the cord but the door stays open and won't close unless I open the door to the car to wake it up.

Maybe do “Assign Key”
Not OP, but I've done that, and it works fine in the app - the key is assigned to the correct driver I want. But that is NEVER reflected in the vehicle. The key will always be associated only with the owner, and will never move over to the other driver.

I guess I'm in the minority when I don't have any issues with the gen 1 fob. I'm still trying to figure out why the new fob is gen 2 only according to their site. Does it no longer use radio or whatever it was using before to send signals to the vehicle?

I concur with the cheap feel. Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky as you with getting mine to work. I went through the pairing process, it said successful, it shows up in the app as one of my many keys as well as in the car... but it doesn't work. None of the buttons do anything, I get a red flashing LED when I try them. NFC works to lock/unlock the doors (pressing the fob to the handle) and it will allow me to drive the car.

The management of the fob within the app is pretty poor as well. You can't remove it from the car and try to re-pair it. There doesn't appear to be any way to reset the fob and try again. Going through the pairing process again just tells me that the fob is already assigned to my car.

Same for me. It says it's Paired in the App and in the Car, but won't work. Tried getting Rivian to help, but they have no idea and have yet to return my call when they said they would check with the "Fob" Group.

For me, the key fob for Gen1 is honestly the worst user experience of the entire vehicle. Super frustrating to press it 5,6,7,8... times before it responds, while other times it works on the first press. There's no rhyme or reason. i've had it re-synced by Rivian service a couple of times. I've tried new batteries, nothing helps. Bottom line is its poorly designed.

Its kinda crazy that a thing as simple as a key fob, which all manufacturers have been doing for decades, was so hard for them to execute successfully. Not sure if they were trying to re-invent the wheel.

There's a reason they created Gen2 of the key fob and included UWB. Hopefully, they've figured it out.

As far as your annoyance about locking and unlocking when you're home, there are two settings for this you can change from within the vehicle. You can make it so that the fob doesn't lock/unlock via proximity. You can also disable locking/unlocking when at home.
I'm getting the exact same results. Service says it's the Bluetooth transmitter in the headliner that's causing that and my phone PAAK not to pair. Do you have phone pairing problems as well?

I was told the Bluetooth transmitter in the headliner needs replaced.

I fixed mine. Check out this thread for how I did it:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ybody-get-it-to-work.38457/page-2#post-698521

I had to go into the "keys" menu in the car. The fob was there but had an "!" Next to it. There was a button there to press to finalize the pairing.

Mine's been in the nightstand since I brought it home. I never use it and just carry the keycard for a back up as well. It's a nice paperweight currently as far as I'm concerned.

Same here. Mine was hanging in key holder till I traded mine for Gen2. I never used not even once.

I've had the Fob for the last two weeks - and its also been two weeks of failed pairing attempts. I'm so very tired of the "Something went wrong, let's try again" message in the app.

I have tried setting it up in the car (Gen 2 R1T), away from the car, with wifi enabled, using the hotspot, using cellular. I have popped the battery out and retried multiple times.

So, mobile service is coming out to help. Seems a little extreme / expensive but that's how they want to handle it, so that's what is being done.
