I was at a new Service Center in NY and asked about the new 22" Range wheels availability and was told that they would not clear the brakes on Gen1 vehicles. Maybe the brake calipers are smaller on Gen2?

I was really looking forward to slapping these wheels on my Gen1 R1T.

Who told you they wouldn't fit? I didn't know that they changed the brakes too... The issue has to be in offset because the 20" wheels fit.

It was a service advisor. He said that the note they got from corporate was specifically about the 22" Range wheels.

Uhmmm…. What? I was counting on upgrading to those. That’s disappointing if true.

I noticed that the sport wheels available in the gear shop are only compatible with Gen1, which seems weird as you can get sport wheels for Gen2. Same design outside, different in the inside?

And the winter floor mats for the Gen1 R1S and Gen2 R1S are different! What gives?

Driver accelerator footbox is very slightly different on gen2. Gen1 mat could probably be cut down to fit, buuut I wouldn't recommend it.

Only the 20" are listed as compatible with Gen 1 and Gen 2. Meanwhile the non-range 22s are the same that was offered on Gen 1. Odd

Gen 2 wheels haven't been added to the gear shop. The bolt pattern is the same on Gen 1 and 2, tire sizes are the same, the offsets are the same, bore hole the same .. I wonder why these wouldn't be interchangeable .

FWIW I called service and inquired about switching to the new 20” All-Season setup with Goodyear Wranglers and I was told something similar: those wheels are not compatible with Gen 1.

The advisor did not elaborate further.

For what it is worth, I upgraded to the new Goodyear Wrangler Rivian specific tires using my 20" Atomic Wheels set up, and they have been great! Same efficiency as the 21s, and only negligible noise increase (a decibel or two). Would recommend.

Good to know!

I’ve been waffling between finding a set of 20”s and buying a 275/60/r20 tire or trying the new 21” Michelin Defenders.

Its annoying that they abandoned the 21” wheel size so quickly.
