Be careful back calculating on assumed capacity. Your Gen1 probably has some degradation, and the BMS in my Gen2 thinks it has about 143kwh of capacity instead of 141. You also need to consider the roughly 10% energy loss during AC charging. Keeping an eye on the actual charging rate in the app at the time of charging is probably best, unless you have another way to log charging rates (like home assistant).
Have home assistant and pushing all metrics to influx, will be making some pretty graphs when I’ve got some better data to play with :)

Both our gen1’s have shown minimal degradation: right now our remaining R1S shows 130.58kWh capacity, whist the tri max is reporting 142.86kWh.

Bit frustrating right now, as there seem to be so few folks who have charged their max packs to >80% that it’s hard to discern if ‘this is how it is’ or if I have a lame onboard charger.

Don't trust that BMS number. I'm pretty confident it's not saying what we think it is.

As far as I've seen, basically everyone's says 131kwh. However, if you see how much energy you can pull out of the pack, it's less. For example, I ran mine to "pedal to the floor to go 25mph" recent, and that equated out to about 121ish kwh.

I'll, probably charge mine to fill this weekend. At least with his old truck I know @starbux used to charge to full nightly, so maybe he's doing the same now...

Have fun with HA. It's a great time sunk. 😎

Good morning everyone.

This is my first post on the forum, though I’ve been a lurker for a while. I got my first Rivian back in June 2023, but as of Friday, I traded it in for a Tri Max. My Gen 1 was an incredible vehicle, and being from the PNW, I had the chance to take it on countless adventures. Both vehicles are used in my business, and this time, I was able to put my company on the title. Some people have mentioned that it isn’t necessary for Section 179, but my accountant advised it (though there’s always a chance they could be wrong). Either way, Rivian made it easy to incorporate it into the business. Chase, however, wouldn’t allow a business vehicle loan—only a line of credit for the purchase.

Details about my Gen 1:
  • 40,000 miles
  • LA Silver
  • Megawatt Rock Sliders
  • iKamper Skycamp Mini 2.0 with 3.0 locks
  • Thunderbolt Adventure Supply Camp Kitchen
  • Full Stek PPF
  • Rivian Manual Tonneau Cover
  • Falken Wildpeak A/T4W tires (Falken sent these for testing in exchange for media, and after their performance, I’ll be buying another set for the new truck)
While it’s been on many incredible adventures, it wasn’t without its issues—from factory defects to the onboard charger failing in January. Despite these challenges, the service center always took excellent care of me.

Here is what the body and interior looks like after 40k miles

Now onto the Tri!

Decided to go with a black on black look. Excited for all my adventures with it in the future. Already have a different build planned out for it. Time to travel more and explore what my heart wants! I went straight from the service center to Tahuya ORV in Washington State to see how she handled.

Here is how my delivery day went!

I look forward to hanging out with everyone and bringing you along for this adventure. Thank you for reading!
Beautiful wood on the Tri!

My guess is the state of health of your HVB is around 92%, (121/131) which would be consistent with the age of the battery pack, I think. If you check your HVB capacity when fully charged now, does it still tell you 131? It should not, but if it does, your assessment seems to be correct.

It does, and I agree. 🙃

I have just tried to charge my Tri-Motor past 80%. At 78%, charge level dropped immediately from 11 kw to 7 kw and kept that level past 81%. I stopped charging at this time. A hard reboot before charging did not help charging behavior. I have put in a ticket for this (plus a couple of other issues - for driver's door alignment and PAAK does not do proximity locking/unlocking at all.) My Gen 1 Quad did not have these issues at all.

Charged to 93% yesterday. No drop in charging speeds at any time.

How are you able to achieve that? What’s your charging routine?

I normally charge to 60% each day. All I did was plug it in. Nothing special. I suggest you submit a service ticket if this continues.

Thanks for the details. I did submit a ticket but the remote appointment is not until Feb. In the mean time I will try charging everyday to 70% and see what happens.

I have charged to 70% twice in the past two days and this morning tried to charge to 85%. Same thing happened - as soon as it hit 78%, speed went down immediately from 11 kw to 6.9 kw. This is disappointing.

I have a G1, but am curious if any of the noted decreased 80-100 charging speeds on some of the G2s has been resolved?

I have a ticket in but my G2, mobile appt on 2/6. I mentioned others are having similar issues. We’ll see. I’m worried they will point to my Tesla wall charger as culprit, but it happens at public L2 as well.
