According to Rivian R1T Camp Kitchen: Check out the final version of the electric pickup’s outdoor cooking station | TechCrunch , the gear tunnel shuttle is a currently included feature with the camp kitchen but will not be in the future: "Eventually, buyers who opt for the kitchen will also have to buy the $1,500 Rivian Gear Tunnel Shuttle option, which the kitchen sits on."

This doesn't feel correct, would make future purchase of the camp kitchen a $6500 purchase. Would be interested to know if anyone has seen this elsewhere.

Wonder what the kitchen would cost if one already had the gear shuttle. Drop the $ to $3500 or remain at $5000?

I haven't seen anyone else say that. Rivian has said that the Snow Peak kitchen accessories were included as a limited-time offering... So perhaps TechCrunch is mistaken?

Or perhaps they know something we don't....

Does it matter? Buy it if you want it. Otherwise, don't. This shouldn't be a shocking revelation... But prices tend to go up on everything.

If you option an R1T with the kitchen from factory, it has to come with the gear shuttle. You cannot have the former without the latter.

Conceivably the camp kitchen modules will be available as an after sale purchase, at which point if one doesn’t have the shuttle they’d have to buy that too.

Seems like poor writing/editing. Much ado about nothing.

Went in and looked at the kitchen...not currently in my configuration. Saw the following:

" The Gear Tunnel Shuttle and Snow Peak Kitchen Set are included with the Camp Kitchen for a limited time. "

The language certainly looks at the possibility of an additional cost for the shuttle. I haven't seen an option for just adding the shuttle without the kitchen.

doesn’t make sense. They could later on break the price apart at the configurator, but why? The kitchen modules for the gear shuttle are pointless without the gear shuttle, so it makes sense to bundle them.

the wording in the configurator previously said the snow peak items were included for a limited time, which is logical as some people might want to choose their own kitchen tools.

the option to have the gear shuttle on its own is there of course.

The bike (and other) mounts require the crossbars but don't include them.
As they add different modules, you might need to order the shuttle first, then mix and match what you need/want.

If you spec the kitchen out in the configurator, it masks out the gear shuttle telling you it’s included in the camp kitchen.

I’d presume the current kitchen price will be reduced by the price of the shuttle later.

but for now there is only the kitchen, so it’s logical that the shuttle is in the price.

Language like "for a limited time" implies to me that they're not going to reduce the price later. Maybe for the next model year they'll drop the snowpeak set and the shuttle, and maybe drop the price to $4000 or something, but I'd expect that they really want to get a lot of accessories into the hands of early adopters so that all of the early Rivians can sell a story and brand.

That said, an alternative interpretation that would also fit Rivian could be that they just don't know yet how they expect the tunnel-space to evolve so they're leaving that wording to provide themselves flexibility. Like, there's a future in which Rivian turns the tunnel gear into a Lego world of modular pieces for all kinds of purposes that people are mixing and matching. There's a future where the kitchen is pretty much the only tunnel gear and it may or may not be super niche. There's a future where Rivian just decides to leave tunnel gear mostly up to third parties. Etc. A lot depends on how the kitchen is received, how many they sell, how useful it is to people after some time, etc.

do y'all read things when you go through the configuration tool? It says right there in the kitchen text 'includes gear tunnel shuttle' and you can't add a second one if you go down to the part where you add the optional stuff.
