Not sure there will be a cover plate.

Several companies make plate holders that mount to the fairlead plate. I've got one on my Jeep.

A little update since we were mentioned along the way in this thread.

We have our Rivian R1T/R1S in the works. If all goes to plan we will have a finished product by late January 2022. We added a page to our site for the Rivian SnapPlate and the option to sign up to the newsletter to be notified when it is available. Typically we do preorders for upcoming models but given the completely new territory with the Rivian, it's newsletter notification only at this time. We have one truck lined up to aid in measurements but if you're in California and interested send us a DM or email us. Details in the link below.

As this thread points out there are many solutions for many different use cases. A few highlights that SnapPlate brings to the table:
- Intentionally plastic (PETG) and stainless fasteners with intentional break away points. Commonly people assume metal is better, until you're in a minor fender bender and that metal bracket just damaged your plastic grille. In Tesla space that's a $500-800 repair, probably not too far off for Rivian either.
- Various Mounting positions and heights.
- Easily removable. There when you need it, gone when you don't.
- Lockable

I'm a happy SnapPlate customer on my Model Y, looking forward to getting one for the R1T ?
