Yep, this has been a serious bummer since this report came out yesterday.

No way around it, a $100,000 means test would be devastating to Rivian.

Especailly brutal if they’re not even able to utilize their 200,000 credits under the current law.

Write your congresspeople folks. Unacceptable.
Total market distortion. The tax credits should be dropped completely and auto makers forced to innovate and compete.

Do we know how long we have to change it before its voted and passed?
This is all part of the much larger budget package that they are under significant pressure to pass. The house and senate EV credit proposals continue to be significantly different so until they can reconcile them there's no telling what it will end up looking like. There's still a chance they just continue with status quo.

No, but it’s being no reported that senators Manchin and Sinema are meeting at the White House today today discuss options lessen the scope of 3.5trillion dollar package. The means testing is proposal is aimed at making them happy.

The urgency stems from the how everything is being linked politically. The-smaller bill contains funding needed by several agencies in the next week or so, but progressive elements in the house will not vote for it unless they get a vote on the larger package.

There’s also the added wrench of the debt ceiling which may end up being inserted into one of the infrastructure bills.

Once again, the bill is all about reducing EV adoption. It's driven by basically the GOP aligned branch of the Democratic party. F them

I'm on the elite aren't taxed enough and the poor aren't helped enough side of the political spectrum. But EV tax credits should be about getting ICE vehicles off the road and nothing else. Not unions. Not wealthy vs. poor. Just doing everything we can to reduce emissions before every corner of the world starts having a regular forest fire season. 100k is an upper-middle class income nowadays. That's still somebody whose purchasing decisions can be swayed by 7.5k. IMO, any politician pushing for this, is obviously the oil lobby's bitch.

This sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out.

Getting wealthy people out of cars into EVs is actually a good thing. Someone driving an effectively 10mpg (in real life) luxury SUV moving to an EV will be a greater net impact than someone moving out of a 30mpg Rav4.

Yes, and….?

Your point is about being wealth agnostic. My point is to actually target people who have large carbon footprints.

Your 2001 Civic gets 36mpg, but my large SUV gets 7-9mpg on premium in city driving and maybe 19-21mpg on highway driving on a highway only trip. Getting more cars like the one I drive off the road will have a larger long term effect

i dunno what you all are thinking, but I don't buy an EV because I get a 7500 discount, in fact, I've never gotten the discount. GM was too far along, and I only got 5K off my lease, and tesla was way to far along in 2019 and i got a whole 1850. Our Fiat 500E was used, so no discount at all other than what the price was. None of these made any call in my desire to purchase a vehicle.

I'm no scrooge mcduck either. Sure, I like money, but neither of those numbers would stop me from buying an EV.

These trucks aren't that much more expensive than an equiv F150 / Chevy / whatever other comparison you want to put here with the same features / capabilities.

I'm an older grouchy gen-xer that has been told he needs to conserve and recycle his whole life, only to find out time and time again that the reason we're told to do that is because the corporations can shit out whatever they want and it's all my fault for needing these products to survive in this stupid world.

I'm buying EVs to spite those assholes, not to make money off taxpayers. I've not owned a truck since 1990 because they were not justifiable to me, i needed higher MPG things. This is the first time I can buy a truck and still be better than the best prius as far as MPGe kwh/100mi whatever measurement you want to throw out there.

Yea, the changes would suck and most likely won't qualify. Plus the CA Clean Fuel Reward is changing from $1500 down to $750 in Nov. This is all chiseling away at any extra $$ for car toys/upgrades! I'm at least jumping on installing a 2nd EV charger to at least get the 30% tax credit.
