If tesla connectors are super secret how come EVgo is installing the NACS connector on some of its chargers?

It is likely that even CCS cars need contactors to connect or isolate the onboard charger depending on whether the car is receiving AC, DC or not in use at all. The increased complexity to support a Tesla plug as well would be the same type of contactor and some extra hardware for the physical outlet.

Based on the schematic of NACS shared, I don't see any reason why a generic adaptor from DC-fast charge Tesla supercharger to CCS coudlnt' be developed. Just leave the AC signals floating and pass through directly to the DC contacts.
So two types of Tesla to J1772/CCS adaptors needed:
- Tesla Tap style to J1772 for AC/L2 charging only.
- Tesla Super charger to CCS for DC/L3 charging only.
Providing a combo would require some isolator/contactor built into the adaptor which is probably not worth the trouble/complexity.

Well it can't be that different if they can manage it in a small adapter that Tesla current sells for $175 for Tesla "enabled" cars.

Tesla vehicles are still different on car side. The CCS adapter to Tesla can happily ignore the difference because it doesn't matter. The reverse adapter could be made no problem but to put the port on the vehicle there will need to be dramatic changes.

This has nothing to do with the size of the connector. It's about open v proprietary standards. As said earlier, if Tesla gave up the NACS patents and allowed it to be a truly industry determined protocol, that would be a different conversation.
They have released all their patents and published the NACS standard.

It's not about the physical connector. It's about NACS being a Tesla IP and CCS being an open standard determined by the industry.

If Tesla gave up NACS patents and entirely let NACS be determined by the industry, not Tesla, then that would be a different conversation.
They have given up their patents and they have published the standard.

You need to understand how ALL chargers work.
When you plug them in, there is NO power connected to any of the pins.
There is a communications protocol which is a conversation between the car and the charger which tells the car what kind of power is available on what pins. (And also sets up charging authorization with car serial number, etc.)
Once the car has this information, it sets its internal charger to receive the power over the selected pins then tells the charger to turn the power on.
That's how Tesla is able to use the same pins for AC and DC charging and understand what power is available.
CCS has a similar communications protocol.

Tesla's DC side connects directly to the input side of the onboard charger. CCS absolutely does not do this.

CCS doesn't connect to the onboard charger? How does it get power to the battery?

The DC pins for CCS connect directly to the battery, bypassing the charger entirely.
