Most of you may not remember the “energy crisis” in 1973. A big time wake up call. Trump did a wake up call during his first term. A very long overdue one on China. Some of it stuck, some not. It’s a big world. WW II proved we can work around things when we have to. We need to focus on doing so now where China is concerned.
Exactly 💯. Also, you don't have to like someone to agree with them, sometimes. It's a trap many fall into.

I was a early teen during the energy crisis in '73. I remember it all. We certainly need to protect our economy's vulnerability better than we have. The issue is how without damaging the economy in the process. Tariffs only work as an initial negotiating chip. In the long run tariffs have proven time and time again that they are paid for by the consumer.
Initially. But it is also the only way to provide an opening to bring it back on shore or to develop an alternative. Through decades of ignoring the obvious, we have provided China with a huge competitive advantage. Dumb and dumber.

The U.S. has lost touch with the concept of sacrifice, but bold actions are needed. Negotiating hard with China may bring short-term pain, but it's crucial to reset our position in technology and raw materials.

For 15 years, we relied on Russian RD-180 rockets for national security launches until SpaceX stepped up. Today, securing graphite for semiconductors—far more critical than EVs—is vital to avoid repeating past dependencies.

The tariff and trade war continues to heat up, and it may mean higher electric rates for everyone. Ontario is threatening to raise rates on exporting electricity to US, and restrict exports of EV Battery minerals. And ban US alcohol!

TORONTO (AP) — Canada’s most populous province may bar American-made alcohol in addition to restricting electricity exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota if U.S. President-elect Donald Trump imposes sweeping tariffs on all Canadian products, a senior official said Thursday.

The official in Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s government said that it’s contemplating restricting Ontario’s liquor control board from buying American-made alcohol.

Ontario is also considering restricting exports of critical minerals required for electric vehicle batteries and preventing U.S.-based companies from the government’s procurement process, the official said on condition on anonymity because the functionary wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about the potential measures.

Ford confirmed on Wednesday evening that Ontario is contemplating restricting electricity exports to Michigan, New York State and Minnesota. He reiterated that on Thursday and said it would make electricity unaffordable for Americans.

“It’s a last resort,” Ford said. “I don’t think President-elect Trump wants that to happen. We’re sending a message to the U.S. If you come and attack Ontario, you attack livelihoods of people in Ontario and Canadians, we are going to use every tool in our tool box to defend Ontarians and Canadians. Let’s hope it never comes to that.”

This means T R U M P S threats are working. Note that Tredau flew to visit Trump within hours of the 25% tariff threat. It will bring most everyone to the negotiation table...that's the idea. If everyone saved like they do in most other first world nations, people wouldn't be too highly stressed about a little pain.

That’s easy for most of us here to say. Reality is quite different for 25% of the United States population who live in poverty or live paycheck to paycheck getting by on the bare essentials and can’t save. No, I am not a liberal bleeding heart. Just stating a fact.

Full disclosure - I have not read the article, nor do I intend to. I would take ANYTHING that Forbes says with a massive grain of salt. IMHO, it’s a very unreliable source of information.

The point is American's save far less than other first-world nations even if you exclude the 25% you refer to. Poverty has many facets to it and there are certainly those struggling because of no fault of their own, but that isn't the case for the entire 25% you refer to.

seems hopeful in light of the ban from China. What I’m missing is how these discoveries relate to the demand and supply ratio of US manufacturers.
